Confusion Says

Going through this solitary life;
alone and on guard, warning myself
to be wary of those around me.
Stumbling at every pass because
I'm not who I want to be, not what
I thought I'd be--not who they want me to be.

Myself is not always as easy as it sounds,
fighting to belong to something
I'm not even certain of anymore.
Arguing with myself about a brighter tomorrow
and longing for the best in it all.

I don't know where to go from here--
looking around at the crowd and viewing a sea
of faces each in their own love, happiness,
cofort, despair; and knowing I am among them,
another lost member in this world I don't understand.

Clinging to the hope that something might change,
a light will shine down, some sense can be made of it all.
I watch the night sky; Casseopoeia dancing
over my head in shards of brilliant glow,
and I wonder, if she can have it all figured out, why can't I?

Beautiful write, and I can really understand it. It's not easy to let our guards down sometimes is it, to really just be ourselves and be comfortable in our own skin when so many want us to be something else, something we either aren't and never were, or have been and no longer wish to be. It's almost easier to change who we are for their sake, then to be who we know we are and always were, and lose those people who can't accept us for that, and then wondering if we even can be accepted for who we truly are deep down at all. You almost feel you're sort of screwed either way. But that doesn't have to be the case....
