Fear, if hippie=peace, love,& harmony, then how can you go on to say that Manson was in fact a hippie. E-mail me, I won't get into this here. The fact of the matter is that Manson was part of the counter-culture, he attended a number of hippy events (outdoor concerts, camping, hiking). As much as you may like to believe that all hippies are peaceful, loving people...it is not true, some use violence as a means to get their message out, either by riots or actually beating people. A few of them, like Manson, also found other advantages to being a hippie. The true gentle folk were relatively defenseless. Leaderless, they responded readily to strong leaders. But how could children who had dropped out for the sake of kindness and sharing, love and beauty, be enjoined to kill? Yablonsky thinks that the answer may lie in the fact that so many hippies are actually "lonely, alienated people." He says: "They have had so few love models that even when they act as if they love, they can be totally devoid of true compassion. That is the reason why they can kill so matter-of-factly." --Time Magazine http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,840466,00.html |

If there's no retort, I'll retreat to dinner. I would have considered this more of a debate than a argument, however. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

You didn't want to get into it here, check your e-mail. Replied, do know I'm not trying to argue with you...but I do know a lot more about Manson and other serial killers than most people on this forum. |

Hippie comes from the term hipster for someone who was part of the pop culture of the time. Some hippies were part of the peace movement, but the peace movement wasn't made up of all hippies.

Manson did want peace...his vision of peace was just slightly screwed up to what most people see as peace. |

Manson was also a drifter who (at one time) was a member of a satanic cult known as the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), which also supposedly had such luminaries as L. Ron Hubbard, Jack Parsons (founder of Jet Propulsion Laboratories) and Alister Crowley in its ranks.
In fact, the L.A. headquarters of the OTO is now where the JPL main complex is located in Pasadena, California. |

Manson did want peace...his vision of peace was just slightly screwed up to what most people see as peace. Manson wanted armagedon with him and his followers as the sole survivors. Manson saw armageddon, and to thwart that he figured he had to kill off blacks and whites that supported blacks. A lot of it is theorized to be because of his prison sentence he served, but he never really talked about it so it is just a theory. Manson wanted a revolution of whites versus blacks and he wanted blacks annihilated, he effectively exploited a fear and weakness for the time. Today his target would probably be Muslim people or people of Arab descent. Manson didn't want armageddon, he wanted to stop armageddon from happening as he saw it in his mind...again, he was twisted, coupled with a high IQ...he had followers. Hardly a serial killer and quite honestly I despise him for becoming a 'prolific' killer of our time when he didn't really kill anyone... |
