Diabetes run in my family, so I'm always very careful about what my kids eat and drink. Just out of curiousity, how much sugar is too much sugar?

your level should run at a constant level, there is no question of bringing out diabetees in a child by giving them to much sugar.

so what is your question realy?

the human body has no need nor does it want, sugar cane (the white stuff you put in coffee) all the sugar required comes in a naturall form from foods like fruit,

so any sugar cane, sugar, is too much

Juvenile diabetes(or type 1) is not caused by too much sugar, but rather genetics. Type 2 diabetes, however, is caused by poor diet, obesity, not enough exercise, etc. And kids CAN get type 2 diabetes, although it is rare. But as far as type 1-it doesn't matter if your child doesn't eat any sugar, ever, it's caused by genetics(that doesn't necessarily mean they will get it though). But as I am sure you know, sugar is bad in other ways. It eats away at the enamel in your teeth and most products that have excess amounts of sugar also have excess amounts of fat. But small amounts of sugar are okay. Like one cookie, or one small piece of cake. And natural sugars are even better, like fruit.

Hope this helps!

Genetics do tend to decide whether you will get diabetes. It runs in our family big time, my daughter is 34 and was just diagnosed, grandson is 5 and is apparently borderline. I keep praying he won't develop it. If he does, it would likely be type 1, meaning insulin for the rest of his life and all the complications that go with it. He has never had a weight problem, so it is a genetics issue. My daughter's dad was on insulin when he died at 45, but he was alcoholic also.

Type 2 is really common anymore it seems in the adult population. Lots of people seem to be able to control it with diet and exercise, but many need medications, pills. Some have to be put on insulin eventually.

The best way to find out about it is to visit your doctor and follow your blood work yearly. You can also meet with diabetic educators and dieticians at your local hospital if you like for more training on the subject.

I hope you don't develop it. Take care.

Hi, Please make sure you are careful on the Aspartame, it is in a lot of Diet drinks, a lot of yogurts, and tons of can foods and frozen foods, even a lot of ice creams have it now.

This is a sugar that is man made and it will mess a Diabetic up, it can not regulate in the normal monitoring.. They are only starting to find this out.

it also will hurt young children, by making them blind, bi-polar, hyperactive, frustrated and believe this, the list is dangerously long 3 pages of warnings. What it will do to a child under 12yrs of age.

They have come out with a "New" you can say.. but old.. just new name.. called Sugar Alcohol it dose not have any alcohol in it but it is the break down of sugar, it is less calories and is only used for a taste of the tong.

perseveres: in foods can really mess with your diabetics. So also watch this.

I come from a long line of them, I have been lucky so far! The Doc for the last 30yrs have told me, I am borderline, and thy said that to my mother also.. regardless if it is true or not...

I can tell you this, if you give a child a 1. teaspoon of anything it will make them hyper for hours at a time. If you give me a cup full, God help you! if you give them a slice of chocolate Cake you just sabotaged your day for they will flip out then crash like a atomic bom.... Because no one needs that much sugar.

it might be good but the out come is crazy!

You are absolutley correct. I have two sons with diabetes (type 1) 16 and 7 years old. The 7 year old loves all vegtables and fruits and prefers water over any soda! He was like this before he was diagnosed with type 1. So diet has no impact on if you get type 1.

Type 1 Diabeties is hereditary and is not something you can bring on yourself by bad eating like type 2 does.

I am type 1 and was diagnose at age 9 but I was born with it it only came out (or should I say my pancreas stopped producing insulin) at a later age, everyone who as type 1 will have it even if you never eat sugar.

If you have type 1 in your family it does not mean your children will have it but if it is in their genes then nothing you can do to avoid it.

It usually skips a generation, my grandmother on my fathers side had it and none of her children did but her grandchildren did (me)
