Inspired by something smiles posted, I'm fishing for more involved per-question comments/debate:

6 Do you believe in fate (that a supernatural power has already determined how our lives will turn out)?

Yes - Our lives have been pre-determined.

No - We're in charge of our own destiny.

Some parts of our lives may be pre-determined, but the rest is decided by us.

I'm not sure.

I think my answer would fall in the realm of "other."

I believe we are directed by a kind of fate - specifically
"the self-fulfilling prophacy" kind of fate. That's about as fatalistic as I get - well, with the exception of death, could that be a self-fulfilling prophacy since there seems to be some question as to why we age at all. Maybe if we 'really' believed life had no end, we would not die?

What do you think?

With all the variations in mental health and mental inclinations I've seen, with so many people on the planet - wouldn't at least some people achieve the state of 'really' believing they won't die? I mean, enough for the census people and other record keepers to notice? Unless, of course, they don't want to be noticed... hmmm...

No, I don't believe in any sort of fate --

And it may be something of an exercise in semantics, but --"Fate" requires someone or something to do the "fating" -- I mean, if you're destined to die in a plane crash when you're 58, who or what decided that? (How they enforce it is a completely different issue....)

Which is why I can't accept the premise -- it requires the presence of some sort of supernatural "FateMaster" -- and, as I have yet to see any evidence of such a thing, the more rational view is to assume it does not exist.

Just one opinion....

I believe in pre-determinism, that things happen for a reason. I believe there is a plan and order to the universe, pre-determined.

I feel our situations we come in to are predetermined, we choose what to do with it.

No such thing as fate.

Who cares... I'm to busy living it to worry if its pre or not.

However I know I am not completely in charge of my destiny... Sometime we seem to be like ping-pong balls on a tilting table...

We each influence the path of the ping-pong's around us.

From the perspective of a ray of light all time is one moment. It may be meaningless but if light could know you it would know every you there has ever been of every moment in time.

From my perspective, there is no fate. From the perspective of light our lives are complete.

You tell me.
