no

jealousy comes from insecurity

and I don't like being in a relationship where I don't feel secure and eventually will wander off

Its a control tactic used to establish power over another person.
See it all the time in my business.

I think little doses of jealousy help a relationship (in my view). Why? Jealousy is born out of love. It shows you care about your partner. I underline "little doses" though.

Picture this: guy says to his girl "I'm going out tonight with a bunch of girls. I'll be partying all night. See you tomorrow morning"; girl answers "well then, have fun!"

I think something would be wrong with this picture, don;t you?

I think some jealousy stems from paranoia...and as F&L pointed out...it DOES separate the wheat from the chaff...whoa

The only purpose I can see is to warn the sane that a person is and emotional cripple and move on.

You do have a point there... I've always been very honest with my partner...& have never put myself in that position...again...it's all about trust & self-esteem...IMO.
