Truth is, I don't go into taverns, (was married to a violent alcoholic so don't like taverns) but was wondering about his observation.

We have been talking off and on for a couple of months when he is outside smoking when I go pick up my work from my 2nd job (the tavern is next door).

Was just curious what you folks thought.

Well was it insult or intruige? Answer that and then we shall decipher the rest of the signals.

He wasn't insulting me, he has been "kinda" flirting, I think, in a round about way.

It is just one more tired line that guys in bars use all the time.

If you are a bar-fly you know the people who hang out all the time so when and outsider walks in you get noticed.

Sometimes it is a subtle warning but most of the time it is just to get some "new meat" to talk to them. There is a vague pecking order in regulars and the first "regular" that can get you to talk usually gets a little "grace" to "work the new Virgin". You can pretty much count on them telling everyone else whatever they find out later.

I would recommend not being all that friendly to guys hanging around outside of a bar. They may be watching out because things you would not want to be a part of are going on inside. Would hate for you to get hurt in the cross fire. Or dragged inside. Or found dead because someone worries you might have seen something you are not suppose to.

Yes, we have talked off and on for a couple of months, not really long conversations, but enough that I am getting a feeling for who he is.

Appreciate the warning, but in this itty bitty town of 7,000, this tavern has been there probably since the 50's, and only has a few people there most nights. This stats has a "no smoking in establishments law" so everyone has to smoke outside, whether it is a bar, restaurant, any kind of shop, so that is how I bump into him, he is outside having his smoke sometimes when I go up there. He is normally alone, like I said, usually only a few people at the bar, and older people, not a place for the "young pups" to hang out. Thanks for the concern.

If your interested and he seems interested, then take the conversations farther. He noticed you, thats what that line in your case means. You sparked some sort of interest, just make sure your interest and his interest coincide with each other before you make other decisions, if it gets that far.

I dont think ^ makes any sense, but maybe you can read through it.

Good. You seem nice. Just because it's old timer's place does not mean they are harmless. Take Care of yourself Gal.
