I used to take sociological quarterly, not specifically a hard science, but can be found at most college libraries.

If you are interested in watching some really well-done college-level lectures that are aimed at general audiences you might want to look into The Teaching Company courses.
These are expensive at about $69 to $99 each on sale (they all go on sale about twice a year so never pay more than that!) But instead of buying them you should check with your local library and see if they can get them for you through interlibrary loan. Also Netflix has some of these that you can rent I believe. In any case, here's the link to The Teaching Company: www.teach12.com Remember, don't buy them! Just find what you want and then take the title to your library and see if they can borrow it for you via interlibrary loan.  I didn't think of that myself untill after I had spent over $1000 on these courses!  Just the same, they were well worth it.  I have at least a dozen or more of them now. But they are all really great courses and so intense that they are worth watching over again, which I do often. I always glean something new with ever re-watch. Or at least get a new inspiration.
