As some of you may/or may not know, I work in a school as part of a Behaviour Management team, a job which is very challenging but at the same time rewarding.Yesterday I received a "shout" on my radio requesting assistance to "recover" a child who had left lessons without permission, I made my way to the direction I was told he had run off into.As I approached him (and within 5 feet of him) I said "excuse me" the child in question turned around and in what seemed like a single leap he stood face to face with me, yelling "Lady, why are you all up in my face! Go on about your business and leave me the hell alone!"

Now this type of behaviour does not phase me in the slightest (I deal with this everyday and worse) with was remarkable was the height of this boy, he is a year seven child and yesterday was his sixth day of attendance at the school............. noway

My question is; what is happening to our youngsters? Why the lack of respect for school, and the lack lusture approach to learning?

After talking him (to death) I returned him back to his classroom. My daughter would say he was "trying it."

Here they say all the kids have activity disorder deficit and put them on Ritalin or some other form of speed which is supposed to have the opposite effect. It only has the opposite effect if you have truly have this disorder.
I want to know why all of a sudden there are thousands upon thousands of kids with this disorder????

These kids are scarey scared

I think it all comes down to the parents. If theres a lack of dicipline at home, the child doesnt learn how to respect his elders. Parents are afraid to punish their kids anymore. Or if they do...its some kind of bs timeout or something like that.

M., My oldest was like that, not with the height but she could make herself seem like she was that tall. She was thrown out of elementary school because she scared her teacher and principal.

It seems to have reache empidemic proportions and increasing every day. Going back to as little as five years, I see a new brigade of "statemented" children, the Ritalin brigade has been outnumbered.

The child in question was not a "statemented" child, he "just wanted to leave the class because he could and no one can stop me because you are not allowed to touch me"(his words)

Not all the time, Sally. ( ) My daughter is bi-polar and was punished if she did something wrong (at my house anyway) but she couldn't help what she was doing when she was doing it. She knew it was wrong but was like a ball rolling downhill, she had to continue until she reached the bottom before she could get herself under control.

I agree, it's how a kid is raised. My boy's seven & knows respect; why? because he's been taught it.

Society is also to blame IMO. With both parents having to work full time jobs to make ends meat, parents don't have enough time with their children & many are neglected of the discipline and attention they need.

I think they are all hooked up to electronic's, computer games, toys etc. think They do not learn to socialize with others.

I phoned home to his mother (who was very supportive and shocked at what she was told about his behaviour) The records from his previous school showed he had an impeccable account of accademic achievement and behaviour............

You are correct...there are exceptions. But as a general basis, kids today seem to have no respect for their parents or anybody. I understand children like your daughter are different.

Just in case nobody has noticed it before this, it's been going on for many years already. As some folks have already mentioned, you may attribute it mainly to liberals who have blurred the line between discipline and abuse over time to the point where the difference between the two cannot be discerned, and it's all seen as non-constructive. Heap on top of all of that the bleeding-hearts who allow it to keep continuing for fear of appearing "unkind" or "unfair" to the individual(s) in question, and the problem keeps perpetuating. Thus, we keep ending up with more and more uneducated people, who also do not even care to be educated.

What I find ironic is, these same people thereafter have the audacity to get pissed off when another person who HAS been well-educated attempts to correct their mistakes. Also again, the bleeding-hearts always step in on their behalf. Nobody has the balls to take a stand for anything anymore, and those that do get suppressed.

I see it all the time on these very boards, not to mention the entire internet. The amount of people who are (allegedly) "educated", yet cannot get a firm grasp on the simple concept of the English language with respect to spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc., is alarming.

So are you refering to the people who obviously didnt take the time to read what they wrote, maybe using all caps, or not using any punctuation at all? Or are you refering to people who may mispell a word every now and again or maybe dont put in a comma where a period should be?

the simple concept of the English language

?????????????????????????????????

English is one of the most difficult languages to master. The number of exceptions to any grammatical "rule" is astounding.

sorry Eileena but i seriously think "bi-polar" and "ADD" are just a dr's excuse for getting people on meds because i know when i was a kid "ADD" and "Bi-Polar" were not very common but since the whole "you can't bust a kids @$$" thing started, just about every kid gets diagnosed with "ADD" or "Bi-Polar"

of course maybe i'm the only one that has noticed this huh
