Being Australian, as an adult I lived in 3 of its capital cities. I moved over to the UK and have been living in Edinburgh for almost 7 years. I have a thing for American men and the American lifestyle. Is it unrealistic to try and date men online with a view to finding an opportunity to relocate stateside? Or am I destined to always think the grass is greener no matter where I live?

Does anyone else have a successfull 'we met on line and have lived happily ever after' story?

Yeah, there are several on here and one where the couple were in different countries (that I'm aware of anyway). As for your other question, my thought is this: if you want an opportunity to come to the U.S., why don't you, regardless of any relationship? To me (and maybe it's only me), trying to find somewhere here to have a relationship with simply so you can move here seems a little shady and dishonest. Maybe that's not what you meant in your post, if so, I apologize. flowerforyou

At the age of 47 while I was very comfortable in the UK I came to the USA with the dream that the the lady who was few years older will be the one and only for the rest of my life.

Having wrecked what I built over 20 years of career in the UK as well as possessions believing that possessions are of insignificance provided you are with the right person I arrived to the USA with some cash.

Fast forward today

The woman turned out to have had pre planned hidden agenda
It has so far cost me 30K in divorce litigation, I live in a rented apartment, and the last ten years of my life has been a total misery. Now with a set of twins and a business here I cannot turn the clock back and return to the UK. Additionally as we age health becomes an issue . At least in the UK you could get seen even if that may have a waiting list. Being self employed with little insurance coverage last year my healthcare and surgeries have set me back over $27K. This would have not happened in the UK
The woman is fairly well to do does not care if she looses in the court and has to pay costs as long as she causes me misery she is satisfied. Almost every month she takes me to court and looses. Most of the time the court does not fully compensate for the legal fees and so I have a monthly bill of thousand dollars for attorney fees

There in the nut shell is my venture to the USA

I met my soon to be ex on line. He is from the UK. He tried to move here and immigration denied him. This has been nearly a four year process. Be sure that whomever you meet can sponsor you,,meaning has money and a place of their own and no former police arrests...

Oh my word, some of those stories are terrifying. No I didnt intend to imply I wanted to find someone in the states to mooch off of, when I get there I want to work and have my own life. Just curious to hear if it can work.

It would be quite an ask to give up the flat I've worked so hard for and the security of my job.

Yours is a flat mine was a country Victorian cottage in rural Worcestershire with an XK 150 in the garage and a recording studio in back of the 1/4 acre garden
House full of antiques sold at give away prices for the vision of heavenly bliss with a partner
I wasn't trying to brag about it. Now I understand when my friends were saying how brave I was taking that step at 47 they were substituting the word "brave" for "stupid" to be polite

What is done cannot be undone

I would never suggest such a thing. I was only saying that in order to move, immigration requires one to have a sponsor. They dont much care about YOUR income so much as they do your sponsors. If your sponsor doesnt meet the financial requirements ( I was a measly quarter off) you can be denied. Also if you have any type of police arrests EVER in life,, you can also be denied entry.

Not really... you have to start over again. It is not always a happy ending... It is hard especially if you have children. I don't have family here and I miss my family in PI. So many things and quiet frankly? I am tired and sick of the snow and would like to go live in the sunny next to the ocean place. I can't leave as I have minor child and 2 children that needs me everyday. So that is my story... So, if you ask me? I won't consider moving... just because it is not easy to start over again. But good luck to you!
