"President Obama, I support the Americans' outstretched hand. But what did the international community gain from these offers of dialogue? Nothing." -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Sept. 24

WASHINGTON -- When France chides you for appeasement, you know you're scraping bottom.

In this article by Charles Krauthammer, a number of problems in our current foreign policy are exposed showing the naive at best and arguably simpleminded efforts of the current administration.

Oh no!
All of France is racist?!?! Those haters!!

Unknown to the world, Obama had in his pocket explosive revelations about an illegal uranium enrichment facility that the Iranians had been hiding near Qom. The French and the British were urging him to use this most dramatic of settings to stun the world with the revelation and to call for immediate action.

Obama refused. Not only did he say nothing about it, but, reports Le Monde, Sarkozy was forced to scrap the Qom section of his speech. Obama held the news until a day later -- in Pittsburgh. I've got nothing against Pittsburgh (site of the G-20 summit), but a stacked-with-world-leaders Security Council chamber, it is not.

Any minglers want to take a stab at a community thread that is not Obama bash based?

that's the point. it was all a big nothing. and it appears
as vacuous as it is! this does not play well with those who
are looking to us for leadership and support. our allies.

I'm generally an Obama supporter but Krauthammer nailed this one.

this is NOT a bash Obama thread. but a discussion of
Krauthammer's article as far as I am concerned. Although
in this case I'm afraid that Obama fumbled the ball.

I find it quite petty and trite the way the lefties on here piss and moan about the negativity towards the anointed one, but had no problems bashing bush 900 times a day. When the president does a bad job, the president does a bad job and should be called out on it.

I didn't take the OP as Obama bashing, I would say it's about his foreign polocy.

You offer an open hand to the likes of Iran and look where it got us. Our allies are seeming to pull away, and the likes of Iran, and Russia are spitting on that hand.

Oh, I wasnt here when Bush was president. Did the bashing start in his first SIX months? The president doesnt work alone and it seems like this thread gets really personal and generally holds him accountable for things which were in place before he became president,,he is just painted as the REASON for the troubles instead of given the opportunity (more than seven months) to make an impact. anyhow,, i have a new topic,,,

GOOD NEWS....
Clintons initiative raises 8 billion dollars.

now maybe we can hold about a dozen more of these to help us get out of debt.

Bush gets the credit for the economic disaster the started when Clinton was in office. So with that I say fair is fair.

I think Clinton and the administration left a certain SURPLUS That bush had EIGHT years to capitalize on,,, so I think thats not an apples to apples comparison. We were in a mess when Obama took office and he has had only seven months.

What is it? 6,7, or 8 months he's had to trip on his d--- so many times?
Is that time including all the vacations he's managed to fit in?

lol at vacations...really?

such as?

my point was comparing what bush did or didnt do in EIGHT years to what Obama has or hasnt done in seven months is kind of,,well, preposterous.

Look at the bright side. According to the Geo Mason Univ HNN poll 61% of Historians rate the Geo W Bush administration the WORST ever in the history of the United States.

So, Obama has a pretty good chance to look good in comparison.

On the other hand, aiming to better the Bush administration in
the future history books might be aiming just a little low...

laugh

It was widely noted that foreign policy was a very weak area for President Obama during the presidential campaigns. This is one reason that Biden was chosen as a running mate. But the initial forays into foreign policy don't exactly look like they are overcoming apprehensions in the foreign policy area.

surprised

The international community is like the slaves of the US . They help in both Iraq and Afghanistan for the US to establish permanent military bases, steal the oil and the resources of sovereign nations.....etc. Colin Powell used to ask for help, help and help while the US keeps on killing INNOCENT peole with no conscience whatsoever . The Democrats are following G.W. Bush and they let down the international community as a whole .

We seem to be forgeting what happened several months into Bush's presidency. Does 9/11 ring a bell. I can't say I was into politics that much back then, But didn't put kind of a huge financial burrdon on our country?
