Lan, 59, grew up in Malaysia, got her nursing degree in London and came to the United States for a nursing job in 1976, according to personnel records released Tuesday by Broward Health, the tax-assisted entity that owns Broward General.

She came to Broward County in 1982 as a traveling nurse and since then worked at several local hospitals before getting hired by Broward General in July 2001.

Her file shows no disciplinary action. She ended her 37-year nursing career Sept. 6 after a tipster reported seeing her engage in unsafe practices and she resigned to take "retirement," records show. By then she was working part time earning $37.21 per hour.

Found this article disturbing and scary. This nurse's actions has affected the lives of others and some may lose their lives due to her carelessness. WOW

Retirement???? Maybe in a freaking jail cell!!

So the taxpayers are once again paying for another criminal. It's our tax dollars that are going toward her undeserving retirement. slaphead

Hopefully there will be an investigation into what she has done.
And hopefully she will lose her retirement benifits!

first reaction was shock!!! A nurse, someone who is trained, has studied and often has another person's life in their hands to betray a field like this!!!

second reaction was @#$%^&*( - she acted without having a flipping conscience. To reuse items which can and may have been infected, is that not attempted murder???

third reaction was %^&(^%$& and then the fear set in - my folks are at that stage that they visit their doctors more than they visit me... are the nurses there following protocols??? is there one lazy, hateful B in their doctors office who doesn't give a hoot and would rather reuse equipment than dispose and get new ones?? I personally know of many nurses (males/females) who do more than their share of work and have outstanding work ethics, but this one nurse sure has me questioning everyone...

 mad

That's exactly right.

What if a needle was someone that was HIV positive, Hepatitis C. She was completely negligent and you're right she did it without a conscience. Anyone with a conscience would do the right thing and not risk patients. Can you imagine the worries that these patients have now? WHAT IF??

Truly a shame and she should lose her retirement, no ifs, ands or buts.

A number of patients test results are showing they are infected with HIV/Aids or other infectious diseases. I like the saying and eye for an eye - give all those with positive test results the chance to use and reuse and continue to reuse medical equipment on her, one after the other...

shocked noway

Yes, an eye for an eye. Now there's a chance that some might be given a death sentence because of her ignorance. I remember a Dr. was put in jail for attempted murder for injecting his patient with the aids virus. Now, there is a difference here but I'm sure as a nurse she knew what her patients had.

Shame, shame, shame.mad

I am just appalled by her negligence, whether she knew that patient A had HepA, patient B had Aids, etc. or not, she put all patients at risk by reusing the equipment which is supposed to be discarded after every patient.

yes, it's very appalling. You're right whether she knew or not it was completely negligent and she needs to be held responsible. Hopefully she will be held accountable!!

I know the feeling.
My mom has a nurse come to the house once a week.
We just have to remember this was 1 out of how many?

You're absolutely right, I do have many friends in this field, but just knowing that it can happen and has happened is bothering the heck outta me.
