Topic: How many illegals

What is the actual number of illegal immigrants in this country, or is it not possible to get an actual count or approximate count?

What will happen to the majority of these illegal immigrants? Will they just get a fine and then become legal? Will they be sent back to their home country paid by the government?

or does nothing happen.

What do you think should happen?

I don't think you can get an accurate count since they are illegal and don't want to get caught

So we would only get estimates and assumptions at best

Fruit and vegetables would cost a fortune if we had to pay white people to pick them.

Big Business wants the cheap labor and more consumers. Politicans don't care what the public want

not sure how close it can be. I don't see how we could know. They don't have SS cards, visas or anything like that to count.

how would we even guess how many? how would you propose to even try to count?

I accept that risk.

I watched a film called "Fast Food Nation", so I know what you mean about this. It surely was a eye shocker to watch this one.

Nobody knows but estimated at around 30 million and growing everyday. This is a growing problem but one that can be delt with people winning on both ends of the debate.Obviously there is some positive things illegal immigrants bring to America such as...hard working, adding to the population and bringing in more taxes(as apposed to a declining population and lesser taxes which is bad),the opening of new businesses, saving old farming towns from a death warrant, and introducing new cultures and traditions which is both fun and positive for America.

The bad...often don't understand or speak english, rarely carries car insurance, can't vote, identity theft, often paid under the table so no federal or state tax is collected, local and state laws are often ignored, could care less about Americas history and the people in it,crime rates often go up in towns where there is a large population of illegal immigrants.

It is unrealistic and costly to deport all the illegal's and would probably leave our economy in a huge mess. But there is too many coming here and too many taking jobs that Americans need. They also work for next to nothing which lowers wages for everyone and that is very bad.If I was running the country I would give a citizenship to any immigrant that is currently working, has been here for 7 years and has no criminal record.Anyone that is in jail or prison would be deported.Anyone arrested in the future for anything other than a misdemeanor would also be deported.Any illegal's not working but not arrested would go on living a normal life.

Ok. Immigration reform should be across the board. Lets say ANY immigrant that can make it across a border undetected and find someone to pay them under the table for seven years can become citizens.... We can reward them for taking the risk and keeping a job and maybe then we can double the numbers of illegal immigrants coming in for a peace of the 'american dream'. Maybe it will help the economy,,,who knows?

What gets me is these debates have surely been discussed in Congress right, yet nothing happens?

I guess that shows that nothing will be done about this immigration problem.

Maybe they don't see it as a problem because they are not involved directly into it.

Whatever the reason, I figure another 2 million illegal immigrants will cross the border in a year or two time.

One small thing before I hit the sheets---I live in central Washington state. 65 to 75% mexican. Some have lived and worked here for years. Now with the large in-flux of new illegals it's starting to get ugly. drugs theft shootings all of it. And these are hard working farmers and they don't take this stuff easy. Could be a nasty thing---Hope not.

Well thats the point of the new census rules. You must fill out the pamphlet or get a fine. And sure they have SS#'s the only problem is that it probably ours that they possess

I don't know where that estimate came from, but I think it's more along the lines of 12 - 15 million.

The "official" federal government estimates are 12 to 15 million. This number has stayed the same for years. The border patrol catches about one million each year and estimates (from the number they see running away) that at least three get through uncaptured for each one caught. The math would then give a "MINIMUM" of 30 million illegals in the country but the number was originally underestimated so the real number is probably closer to 50 million based on demographics of rental property, hospital use, etc. The Republican Party has not wanted to attack illegals because of cheaper labor and more consumers (as noted above). The Democratic Party sees the vast majority of illegals as probable Democratic Party voters who will push for social welfare. The US general population is 2 to 1 against allowing illegals to stay but are being completely ignored by their own government.

One estimate is that one out of ten illegals commit serious crimes in the US and over thirty thousand belong to gangs.

30 million?
The government estimate is about 11 million and they are not all hispanic.

If they are here and are not criminals make them legal. More criminal than just crossing the border, I should say.

It is not a big deal if we can get over all the stereotyping that has gone on about them.
