Just wondering if anyone has any advice with dualcores. Do they really
run that much better or do they usualy run just as good as a single core
with the same clock (with certain programs)

Any newer computer would runn better than an older model I would gather

plus I have heard tripples are soon to be out?

Do you mean quadcores? Because they have them out already, should check
out the gaming powerhouses Dell, Alien Ware and the like have out. Only
set you back 6 grand. laugh I built mine for about $700 and it will
run Doom3 on the highest video settings. My processor was a wopping 80
bucks, so it makes me wonder would it really be worth me paying 220 for
a 3ghz dualcore.

I have a XBOX 360 and am on Live so I don't do much in PC gaming
anymore.

Nearly every PC game that has been ported to a console isn't as good,
Doom3 is a good example. We might meet on xlive at some point once the
360 drops in price.

yeah I played DOOM 3 mind you DOOM 3 was on XBOX not the XBOX 360

you could find a 360 for less then 300 on ebay I would bet

I trade mine in for the 360 Elite model

Maybe I see you on COD3 someday then

I have a dual core.

The only time I really notice it helping is when I'm emulating Windows
while working in OSX.

I have a duel core, I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes, but
all games run like butter. I play WoW with all settings at their
highest without any problems. That's on XP pro, I have heard that Vista
has frame rate problems with WoW.

Vista just has a problem with working, nothing will work on vista, I'm
staying as far away from that thing for a long as I can. Lol

Dual Cores are def worth it and now you can get a 2.8 A2 socket AMD for
just around 249 bucks or if you want better performance you could go
with the more Expensive Intel Dual cores(yes they outperform AMD for
now).

I just switched to a 2.8 dual core AMD a couple months ago and it is
deff a big diff ,Running Lineage II,Vent and ingame MSN messenger. Plus
running 2 8600 BFG's on Sli helps to :p

and if you don't run multiple programs then Dual core isn't really
needed

Totally a boytoy. :P
Ok, So Dual Cored currently might not be able to help your games as much
as you like, like you will not see a 100% improvement. What you will see
is better multitasking and a lot higher performance if you do things
like MP3 or Video encoding. The truth is not a lot of programs are made
to take up all of the advantages of multi-threading.
However, the good thing is, the new dual core processors use a 65nm
processes. Smaller=faster and cooler. The new Dual core processors will
perform much faster then older processors but still use less power
(which means less heat). Also the newer processors have been designed to
do more instructions per clock cycle. That means that your 2.4Ghz
Pentium 4 is not the same as a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo. That Core 2 Duo would
still be about 50-70% faster.
But I don't play games so I wouldn't know. :P

The biggest problem with gaming nowadays is the different coding done in
different platforms of the same game. Most people use that as a
comparision. Fact is, in just the plain simple truth is that the
graphics on PC based games are alot better then thier set top
counterparts. Things like pixal shadings and anti asailing cannot be
touched from a great pc. FACT. Set top boxes are limited, and these
companys are loving it. They rack up money from the comsumers from older
tech, untill consumers stop buying, then they findly come out with a
whole new box for you to buy. It's just all about money. Why do you
think that microsoft came out with the xbox?
