I've been waiting for a consensus to form in how we will use those words
in this particular thread... its been a great demonstration of how we
can't assume other's are using words the same way we are.

I like SheNerds answer - consistent with how i usually use those words.

Can we agree that the kind of wit which Tulip is speaking of here is
related to language skills?

And that overall intelligence can be unrelated to language skills

ah...but NO intelligence, no language skills to speak of.

i think they are interconnected, and maybe use a slightly different area
of the brain. i've never known a person who is severely mentally
deficient to be what i'd call witty...though they try in their own way.
(i was raised in a house with my aunt, who is a special education and
life-skills teacher, and she brings her students home to stay on a
regular basis. sad, as they often die early, but enlightening, since
they no longer seem different.

I'm wondering if this wit Tulip speaks of could just be considered 'one
kind' of intelligence...something like skill with math (which I think
can be entirely separate from wit) could also be considered 'another
kind' of intelligence.

Hi massagetrade,

Wow, you are a hardy carrot, aren't you? :)

I think you are correct in that there many different components of
intelligence. In my case, I have a high verbal intelligence but my math
skills are decidedly less than stellar, (I almost didn't gradute from
university because of this).

SheNerd :)

that's kind of what i was thinking, massage...it definitely takes
language skills to be "witty" in a humorous way...and quick-thinking.
so a possession of aptitude, yes...

gah, off to work. no thinking in the morning, grrr...i need coffee.
