We are grouped together here in Atheist/Agnostic mostly by a lack of belief; and for those of us that are here based on 'disbelief', well its a fairly narrow (and some would say unimportant) topic of disbelief - its just the question of 'deity'.

Now I'm not suggesting that 'we all must believe in something, so if you don't believe in a diety, what do you believe in - in place of a diety' ...

But I would like to get to know people here according to their beliefs, not just our lack of belief.

So what do you believe? What do you believe in?

Political beliefs? Public policy opinions? Philosophical beliefs? Beliefs on appropriate human conduct? Believes related to purpose in life as a whole, or purpose in your life? Beliefs on health?

Do you have any beliefs which are uncommon or unlikely for an Atheist/Agnostic?

If your questions are answered... then you either believe the answers or not. You cannot believe the answers, since you believe nothing. So why ask the questions?

Sometimes I partially believe. Or alternate between belief and disbelief on such small time slices, the illusion of simultaneous belief and non-belief occurs (like a multitasking computer).

Oops.. I meant Obi-Wan, or something like that. I got all alphanumeric under the influence of C3P0 and R2D2.

Are you f***ing with me head, or you're speaking in tongues?

What the f is Obi-Wan?

Please stop speaking in riddles. Pretend you're talking to a man who's as educated in North American Pop Culture as the Pope in the Vatican. Oh, you don't even have to pretend.

I believe in Science, that all questions will eventually be answered by the drive, ambition and desires of those who realy want to know our place in the universe and how it came about.

I dont believe that we have to wait like starving dogs, whining and begging for "scraps" from the masters' table. If you want to change your life, DO IT YOURSELF, don't surrender everything you are to the machinations of what has kept the human race from real progress for thousands of years.

There, that should do itlaugh laugh

Woah, so the phrase "Help me Obi-wan...you're my only hope." doesn't mean anything to you? I wasn't messing with you at all... but now I am definitely tempted to.

Ah, I get it. Obi-Wan is the patron saint of old geezers with ED before Viagra. He is the one who holds out his shaft like a holographic penile symbol. He looks a bit uninterested though. It's all showbiz, he thinks, methinks.

Is this from Star Treck? Or from a Schwartzenegger movie? I have not watched one Star Trek episode, ever. I missed the entire fun.

I believe I'll eat another carrot.
I believe I'll have another adult beverage.
I believe it's really freakin cold in Oklahoma. At the moment.
I believe WUX has a unique wit.
I believe WUX should get out and experience more of today's culture.
I believe the dangers of global warming have been exaggerated beyond reason.
I believe humanity has condemed itself to extinction in lots of different ways and nothing we do will matter.
I believe the best you can hope for is to scratch out a little happiness before the end.
I believe the best way to die is in combat, fighting a great evil, defending the innocent.
I believe the Klingon way of dealing with the dead is by far better than the way humans do.
I believe anyone who believes in a godthing suffers from a form of insanity.

Now ask me what I think....

Yes, thats exactly right. And yet, he is Leia's only hope.

Blasphemy! Its Star Wars! Star Wars, not Star Trek.

Since you've currently managed to gain access to the internet, despite your many years of isolation, I highly recommend you suffer through the horrible acting and predictable plot arcs of one of the 20th centuries greatest^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H most culturally significant movies.

See, there is a movie which you might enjoy, called "Space Balls". But you can't watch Space Balls until after you watch Star Wars! I made that mistake with 300 and "Meet the Spartans". I ruined both movies by watching them out of order...or maybe they really sucked that bad to begin with.

Meet the Spartans was an absolutely dire spoof, I took my seven year-old cousin to see it and even he was unimpressed, I had to watch three hours of Get Smart to restore my faith in piss-taking.

However, regarding the point of the thread, I have very little idea at the moment. I used to say I believed in reason, but I'm having a crisis of faith at the moment. Secular humanism? Why not, she'll do for now.

Yeah, screw the spartans.

Get Smart is awesome! I love movies that feature idiot-savant types.

Re: the OP - I've been meaning to comment on some of my beliefs which are line with the beliefs of religionists (most likely means to an interesting argument, here, where we otherwise all just agree with each other). Here's one I just posted in another thread:

I love the phrase "Let go and let God"! It suggests an idea of ceasing one's own micromanagement, ego-based motivations, and/or over-analysis. It invites an attitude of trust and faith, while also perhaps directing ones attention to the practice of virtue and the idea that there are larger perspectives to consider than one's own selfish point of view.
