I was babtised in a river with complete submersion.

It was actually a scary experiance (I was young) at first but by the
time they pulled me up I was quite calm.

I have heard several different rituals describing babtisim and am
curious as to the differences and how it effected you.

I was baptized in the Lutheran faith as a baby. When my son was born,
out of the greatest love and respect for my family, I agreed to have him
baptized also. It may seem hypocritical, coming
from an atheist. But respect is one of my most basic beliefs and if
that respect means venturing into the realm of the humble, then I have
done nothing contrary to my beliefs.

I like the rituals that create community, it's nice to hear how each
celebrates them. Thanks AB

I think I was baptized when I was really little, around 1 y/o... and
according to the customs of the era, I was wearing a white dress and I
believe my father held me in his arms, leaning me back over the
baptismal basin, with my mother and godparents standing guard, and the
priest pouring water on my head and on the basin. My kids were baptized
in the same fashion. But it included a candle and a white handkerchief.
In my time it was an individual ceremony, for the family, by the time I
baptized my son, it was over 50 kids and their families crammed inside
the tiny church. ohwell

I was baptized by total immersion when I was 11 after I had given my
life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My mother had us kids baptized in the Catholic church out of respect for
my Irish Catholic grandmother, her mother in law...this all happened
when we were with in a year old, don't ask me anything about lol I don't
seem to remember it.

My son, now 19, has never been baptized, I feel it his decision to
choose his own path and then do as he desires with that path.

I also was baptized when i was a little baby, within the catholic
ritual. However, I can't remember a thing.
I must have cried really loud though.

I was wondering if anyone still babtises in a river any more.

Some of the rivers I have seen are a might dirty for such things.

AB I have been to a few baptismal's where they now do it in a lake or
pond on the church grounds, I have never seen one done in a river other
than in movies.

I was baptised at 6 in a family baptism which in another post i said i
did not agree with. At 31 I was baptised in a cattle tank. Since then
(91) we have turned to flowing river baptisms. Some have been quite
cold.brrrrrrrrrrrrr.....Miles

Not baptised, nor my kids.

No constraints placed upon my brothers and I, was my parents'
explanation.

And I agreed with their train of thought, when I became a parent, and
have done the same with my kids, with their father's full agreeance.

I was baptised in a baptismal tank in the church I was attending at the
time. An awesome church I might add. It was cool and warm and calming.
It was about four years ago on my birthday. July 24,2004. I would have
much preferred to be baptised in a river. If I ever get that chance, I
am going to do it that way. If it makes me feel closer to my God, I will
for sure do it again.
AB, I am jealous. Lucky.

I was baptized as a very young baby. I don’t remember the actual event
of course, but I have a paper that says that I was baptized the same
year I was born. Probably very close to the day I was born.

It’s no wonder I’m ticked off at the world. I come out of the womb and
the first guy I meet smacks me on my butt. The second guy I meet
splashes water in my face. What a welcome committee that was!

I have never been water baptised. Once I become active in a local
church, I will probably correct that.

Now people we have to go beyond.
You were baptized with water, but that fact is acting on you in the way
it should.
Once again all these are mere representations of evens in the spiritual
world.
a better question eht r u doing to live that baptism the way it should
be lived?
which is loving your brothers and sisters, not criticizing them, not
judging them
We need to think bigger than mere physical representations.

Regards.

Do you think water is necessary if one is babtised by the Holy Spirit?
