OMG!!! The (2) 14yr. olds are friends on my 12yr.old Daughter.
This happened just down from my sister's, a bad area we've always rode
our horses thru. These poor families. 1 of the 14yr old's is alive his
brother & his friend died..


Car crash kills 2 Covina teens

SAN DIMAS - Two Covina students died in a car crash Thursday night, and
a third student riding in the car is in stable condition, according to
the California Highway Patrol.

Daniel Lewow, 17, a South Hills High School football player was driving
his brother Chance Stroud, 14 and his brother's friend Dalton Barnes,
14, home on Covina Hills Road in an unicorporated county area near San
Dimas when the car went off the road and flipped over.

On Friday, dozens of students visited a make-shift memorial on the site
of the accident.

The memorial, made up of candles, flowers, and messages from friends,
lies in a ditch on the side of the road, under a weeping willow tree.

The students, many of whom were high school friends of Lewow, said he
was a funny guy, and that a lot of students looked up to him.

"He always had a big smile on his face," said Travis Ortega, who played
on the offensive line along with Lewow. Ortega referred to Lewow as
"Daniel Stroud," as did his other friends, his principal, and football
coach.

Lewow's coach said he was a hard worker and tough guy.

" He was one of those guys who was going to give it whatever he had,"
said South Hills football coach

Fabian Rojas was riding with Lewow minutes before the accident, and said
he told him to not drive so fast.

"I told him he should slow down," said Rojas. "Then a few minutes later
I got a call saying he was in an accident."

Rojas said that Lewow had left to pick up his brother and Barnes.

The accident was reported about 7:10 p.m. Firefighters used the Jaws of
Life and other tools to extract the teens from the overturned Chevy S10
pickup according to Edmund Zorrilla of the CHP.

Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other two were taken by
helicopter to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center, according to
Zorrilla.

Lewow was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later, Zorrilla
said.

Lauren Sloan, a 14-year old student at Sierra Vista Middle School, said
that Barnes and Stroud were good friends.

"Everyone really likes both of them and we're all very upset about this
right now," said Sloan, her eyes tearing up.

Thats sad. I hope the kid that survived is doing better.

This was just the update 45 min. ago he was critical when they flew them
into LA. last night. they has councilors(sp) at the schools all day in
each class. the junior high & High school.

that road has always been bad because its it got a couple turns that
you have to slow to about 15 mph.

That's so sad. I hope that your daughter is ok, to lose a friend so
young, is tragic.

I'm so sorry to hear what happened. My prayers go out the families and
friends of the teens and also for your daughter who has lost two friends
at a young age.

Sorry to hear about the loss to your community. My sympathy with all of

She is ok for the most part.

My Mom took her off with the dogs.

It's harder when their in a group because they would make each other
cry.. it's going to be bad because she'll see that every day. there was
a 18yr. old killed last year at the other end that we don't normally
travel & there is a memorial there for him, So we have to talk about it
each time.
when I was in high school we use to race on this road, its crazy.
They don't realize DEATH IS FOREVER!!

I am so sorry Lisa, hope your daughter is okay. The families of these
boys will need a lot of support to overcome this. School is out now and
these kinds of wrecks are always up during this time of the year. How
sad.

heartwrenching when such young lives are taken in any way!

I know its going to be hard for me to go by the spot with out crying. &
the guilt the drivers family will feel their 14yr is alive.
Tonight of course Lindsay is over at my sister's she wanted to go to a
friends until 10pm & dad told her 9;30 she calls whining, I'm getting
all weird that she'll be on that road at night. with her friend's mom.
This isnt a good feeling, I've been on that road since i was a kid.
maybe because those boys were more real to me...

aww lisa im so sorry to hear that , as u know my son was killed in an
auto accident last year. the pain the family has to go through, im so
sorry to hear that .
