I posted in another thread last week about how my purse had been stolen with ALL my identification in it. So I am trying to get my identity back but to get a social security card I need a drivers license and to get a drivers license I need a social security card.

Both items were in my purse. Has anyone else been through this who can point me on where to start,,,,?

What about a birth certificate? Would the DMV or SS office take that?

I think they need some type of picture id as well as birth certificate. I know the Soc Sec office requires a birth certificate but I have been twice married and would have to obtain the marriage certificates to show my name change. Easy enough with the first marriage, but the second marriage was in the UK and I left my ex with the papers which he no longer has and is not willing to help me obtain.

Seems Im kind of screwed,,huh?

SS office told me "A birth certificate only proves you were born"

But yes I'm going through it right now also, its a real pain since 9/11 You can ask them if school records will work, seems like they said something about those being accepted.

Good Luck flowerforyou

IF you know your SS# and DL # you can go to the DVM on line for your state. When I got a replacement they used the OLD picture and sent it to me in the mail...for a nominal fee! NOT a bad thing! I simply lost mine.
Do you have a police report??

No, but I can obtain a police report. I dont remember my DL# but I will check around to see if I have any other papers with the number on them.

Ask your employer for assistance, and check the SSA website as well. An employee ID, a gym ID, etc can all help. You needed a photo ID to get those, so at least try. The SSA website should have links and lists of what they take and don't take.

Your DL number should be on cancelled checks at the bank, if retailers did their job.
