Anyone here go on meds for mild depression? Which ones? Did it help? Where you scared to take them at first?

(I know already how meds can help those with major depression... so know need to tell me about all that.... Just wondering about mild depression)

I'll own up to it  I started Celexa a few months ago. I've noticed a good difference. I'm still completely aware of everything, its importance, severity, etc but it does not drag me down as much. Hard to explain, but although I was reluctant to join the 'happy pill' club, I'm happy I did. bigsmile

Not me personally, but I have two family members that have used Wellbutrin for Seasonal Affect Disorder, which seems to be common this time of year.

I call it the Winter doldrums. It's freezing frickin' cold, little sunlight, and all I want to do is stay inside, eat and sleep.

Personally, I think inactivity breeds depression, but seems to effect people to different degrees.

For me, just forcing myself to run outside, or even go to the gym, helps. Not enough for everyone, tho.

I think I have SAD (seasonal affective disorder) cause during the winter I am in a 'haze' and can't seem to keep up with my life.. and have mild depression.

I saw a general physican and he prescribed me celexa. I will have a psych eval done in a couple months cause that was the earliest appointment.

I am just a little scared to take the meds, but I know that I don't want to go through what I did last winter.... and I am already having a hard time.

This is a little more than just wanting to stay inside and sleep and eat.

Actually, I have been paying attention. I haven't been eating as much as before.

(FYI, the natural endorphines that you create from running... if you do it consistantly... once you stop... you might have depressive symptoms)

You know... that could be the case for some people that feel depressed.

But for those that have depression, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain that cause it.

It isn't as simple as pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. Not to mention, you live in a State that has a heck of a lot more sun than mine.

Okay... let me lay this out for you....

I have four graduate classes (12 credits) which takes up about 3 days out of my week. I have an internship- 2 days a total of 16 hours (and tack on 4 hours of driving a week to and from it). I have a 7 year old child that is probably ADHD. I am usually going from 6 am to 7 pm most days during the week. And on the weekend, I have my son because I am a single parent and don't have any help. And there is a lot more personal stuff which I don't care to share with the public.

So.... When you can find time in my schedule to volunteer... or when you can find money in my bank account to pay a babysitter so I can go to the gym.... etc etc.... please let me know!

Yes, I meditate but not consistantly.

I think what you don't get... it if someone has depression... it's a little more than making lifestyle changes.

Not at the same time ill <--- that's what will happen!

I am on the straight and narrow... plus I can't think straight as it is.... so neither of them would help!

I took Lexapro for 6 months a couple of years ago. I had no side effects and it just took the edge off being upset or depressed but I still could function. My sister also took it for six months at one point. Neither one of us take it now so I do not know about taking it long term--but short term, I thought it worked great

It's a dietary supplement. L-5 hydroxytryptophan. It increases seratonin.
