I'll try to explain. I like to collect pictures off the computer, such as unicorns, faries, angels, flowers and others pictures. I've about 30 disc of pictures and some might have 15 or less pictures on it.I want to put them all on one disc. Here is what I've done,I download the pictures off the disc, went through them and keep what I wanted off each one,Some how I ended up with file 1,file 2 and so on. What I want to do is have just one disc with all the pictures on it,without file 1 and file 2 and so on. Is there away to do this and could you please explain it in simple words..

Not sure what you're trying to say about 'file1' 'file2' .... but the easiest way to do this is to simply make a folder, add all of your pics into there... rename them... and then put them on a disc.... or just use re-recordable CD's and add the new pics to the old CD as you find new ones.... smokin

Okay ... I've read this at least three times trying to understand ... but I don't - please help me to understand what's taken place up to now. As I read this, I come away thinking that you've been downloading images (pictures) from online sites. You say you 'went through them'. How? Did you use a program to view them? Did it offer an option to 'convert and save'? If it did, did it also offer a re-numbering sequence? That's what it sounds like so far, but I'm not sure that's what you're saying.

You say you want to have just one disc with all the images on it without 'file 1', 'file 2', etc. Right? First thing anyone answering will need to know is: How large (in megabytes [MB] or gigabytes [GB]) is the picture collecion NOW? The average CD, for example, holds approximately 700MB or so worth of data. Bigger than that, you have to go up to DVD.

That's as far as I can take this now without more information. One question: Your computer CAN burn both CDs and DVDs, right? If not, that's not gonna be a viable option. Or, if it only burns CDs, you'll need to split the files among several burns to separate CDs.

You also say you have '30 disc of pictures' ... what KIND of 'discs' ... ? Floppies? ZIP? CDs? DVDs? Please help us help you by filling in some of these blanks. And yes, like the other poster mentioned, assemble 'em all into ONE folder on your hard drive. I wouldn't recommend rewritable CDs, tho' - their lifespan isn't as long as the non-rewriteables ...

Rename the files before you burn them

Because I've seen several people make this precise mistake in this exact situation, I wonder if this is what she means:

She has 30 CDs of photos. She tried putting them into one folder to sort them. She accidentally copied them to the folder in which they already existed (easy to do in windows), more than once, and multiple, numbered copies of the same file were made. (Named "Copy (2) of ..." )

Another interpretation might be - different photos which were found on different disks had the same name, and she is having a name collision issue as she tries to collate them. The solution is still the same.

If either of these is true (and possibly, even neither is...) everyone is giving good advice above.

----------------------
To rename a file in Explorer:

Select a file then hit F2

or

Select a file then click on the name, carefully, once.

Yep, that's a distinct possibility. One thing that will need to be done if that's the case is elimination of the duplicate photos, otherwise it'll just be a circular exercise. Depending on what exactly happened and what exists at this point, just cleaning up the image files so there's only one copy of each image could be pretty time-consuming. Worst case is that some (or a lot of) the images would need to be opened and compared to verify they're the same or different - unless the icons allow that without opening.
