Topic: something to think about

Recently while watching the series finale of Dawson's Creek, one of the lines really had me thinking:

Jen, while making a video for her daughter before she, herself passes away, "God, I never really believed in God, in fact I spent alot of time and energy trying to disprove that God exists"

then after:

"I've come to realize that it just doesn't matter if God exists or not, what's important is that you believe in something"

I take this to mean that, this means that each person has to decide what God is to them. There is no "my way or the highway" when it comes to a God, Goddess or whatever you believe in. Each person has their own belief and as long as what they believe in makes them happy, I say, all the more power to them.

Alot of the strife would start to heal if everyone took that idea. It is important that we believe in something, even if that something isn't what other people believe in.

Just a random thought for the day.

one problem with this. This would put God on a belief level. God is more then that though, this is demeaning God's name. God is as real as you and I weather one believes in him or not. God isn't just a belief someone came up with one day like the tooth fairy, Santa Clause, or any other fairly tell. GOD IS REAL not just a BELIEF.

actually you godthing is exactly as real as the tooth fairy and Santa Clause.
You can say it's really real all day long. You can even believe it. That doesn't make it true.

You can't feel any fairy tell such as tooth fairy or santa clause, but you can feel God if you reach out for him.

I would say she is in for a rude awakening in her afterlife.Such foolish and meaningless words to say before passing away.

hey I'm not the one saying I'm feeling something that isn't there. Do you have audible and visual hallucinations too? Like I said, they have medicine for that now. You should check into it. Before you start hearing voices that tell you to do bad things.
Of course, if you wanted to get away with doing bad things...

It is a beautiful thought Foliel. Thank you. I agree that for the sake of our mortal life what is significant is believing in SOMETHING. For those who only believe there is our mortal life that something should suffice and get them through it.

I believe in something more than my mortal life and so my belief in GOD is paramount to my meeting up with Him someday in the afterlife.

It is important to people to have religion, IF they want it. If it makes them feel safer, more comfortable, or whatever the reason, they need it. It is more important to believe in something than it is to fight and argue to try to prove or disprove it.

I don't think she will have any trouble in the afterlife, as she finally realized what is important. She admitted her errors and flaws and passed away peacefully.

If we all found that within ourselves, and let people live their own lives, the world would be better off.

you have a very good point. But this is why i try to tell people of the truth, and i don't try in a way that is offensive to people as alot of others do. If you seen someone out in a river or lake drowning, would you not try to save them before they die or would you just walk on by and let them drown? I see people drowning all over the world and will not rest till i have atleast tried to rescue them before they die.

In all honesty I would have no choice as I would drown with them seeing as I can't swim.

I do agree that, IF a person is willing to listen and wants to know more, please give them the information they want, but also try to remember there are those of us that do not feel that we need to be saved.

I have lived a very good life, with or without religion. I do not ask for anything that I can't do myself. I am content with my life and would not ask for anything to be changed.

Now that is just me, I know there are many people who might need help. For them I will go out of my way to help them if I can, but I never needed religion to do that. I have always been the type of person to give assistance if I can, but I also know that sometimes people wish to be left alone to live their lives their way. My way of life is not necesarily someone else.

Hence I believe that a persons beliefs are their own and if they are ok with that I will walk away and let them live it, but if they come to me asking for my help or for advice I will help them.

believeing in and honoring our father in heaven doesn't have anything to do with what it can do for our lives. It's about bettering the world and doing our Fathers will. It's not a selfish action such as trying to bye your way into heaven or anything of such. It truely is mainly about making the world a better more peaceful and loving place for EVERYONE.

Foliel's photo
Sat 04/10/10 07:01 PM
Can I not do that without religion? (honest question, i'm really not just trying to be a jerk)

I recycle, I work towards making my community a better place, and I do what I can to help our planet. I do this with no religious interest, I do it because I want to. I want peace on earth just like everyone else.

I believe that, when I die, my actions will speak louder than my words. I am certain that the life I lived and the things I accomplish will speak for me more than anything I can say will.
