Like that movie 2012 was any good either. Land does not move like it was portrayed.

The huge Earthquake they had in Samoa raised an island 10 feet.

The idea the earth's crust suddenly goes through these supposed destabilization periods is a crock of Leprechaun poo! This is not Venus and there is no evidence yet Venus does that either. It is currently a (theory) Hypothesis only. Land masses do not turn upside down. The largest tectonic movement laterally measured was about twenty feet but the movement occurs for miles.

I would believe a population critical mass by 2010 LONG before earth goes all willy nilly itself. I would believe mass vulcanism blacking out the sky LONG before I believe 10.0 earthquakes are going to kill us all.

Now population critical mass? It goes like this, a population of ANYTHING grows to the point where population growth becomes catastrophic and overwhelms the biosphere to the point the creatures consume everything and destroy the environment so badly that the land cannot support life. A phenomenon like this happens in Thailand where the rat populations explode every fifty years due to the blooming of Bamboo. The rats eat everything and farms are decimated. then there is starvation for everyone and rats and people die off. Without us China AND India cannot feed themselves, PERIOD! This problem is growing to many other nations like Haiti which had a serious overpopulation problem and now they are dying off because of starvation and an inability to feed their overpopulation.

No, we are bringing about our own doom!

Hopefully enough of us smarter people get through so that the next pass Mankind has is not such a bout of unchecked growth with Tourett's Syndrome. After the Apocalypse it will be Mankind Redux!

There is nothing to discuss. It's idiocy! whoa

Remember the Millennium hype? yawn

People with too much time on their hands; bible thumpers who are a little crazed and ill-prophesorial; conspiracy theory zealots all leads to public hysteria. The weak or people who feed on drama grab onto these ideas that have no merit.

I'm sure you can fill your time with something possessing a little more substance. winking

The potential for a once great civilization to fall is there, end? Not on a global scale I don't think, but the economy goes and so does the countries that relied on it.

"The World" means different things to different people. The Earth is not likely to explode, be hit with an astroid, or any other planet wide disaster, as far as anyone really knows. But, as Andy said, mankind is digging a bigger and bigger hole that we are going to find a hard time crawling out of.

Mankind's biggest problem since he has been here is food. A relatively small change in climate (regardless of who you blame) causes croplands to either disappear or only be suitable for different crops. The oceans feed much of humanity and are maxed out as to how many they can feed is very limited. The world is growing humans at an incredible rate.

At some point there simply will be instability in much of the world due to hunger (China's biggest fear) and our "World" will come to an end. There (if history is any teacher) be another world war and it will probably include the use of nukes.

2012? I think it will be more like 2020 and a slow process, not an overnight event.
