Fmr ACORN head calls Tea Parties "bowel movement" and claims "they're coming after you" Former ACORN head Bertha Lewis told a group of the Young Democratic Socialists on that they should "do everything [they] can" to build their organization, and then insisted that our times are worse than internment under the Japanese and the years of Jim Crow laws (h/t Morgan Richmond at BigGovernment): Any of these groups that says, "I'm young, I'm Democratic, and I'm a socialist," is okay with me. You know that's no light thing to do -- to actually say, I'm a socialist. You've got to know, actually, we are living in a time that's going to dwarf the McCarthy era. We are living in a time that'll dwarf the internment era of internment during World War II. We are right now in a time that is going to dwarf the era of Jim Crow and segregation. They are coming and they are coming after you, and they are going to be brutal and oppressive. They've already shown it. ... This is not rhetoric or hyperbole -- this is real. ... This tea party so-called movement -- a bowel-movement in my estimation -- and this blatant uncovering and ripping off the mask of racism... Bertha's group lost its congressional funding after videos were released depicting actual ACORN workers offering advice on how to hide income from prostitution from the government as well as how to lie to get mortgages. This video demonstrates a contrast to rhetoric about alleged fear-mongering among Tea Party protesters. Even more ironic is the explicit Democrat support given to the causes she lists. Liberal icon Bobby Kennedy played no small part in Joe McCarthy's efforts to investigate Communist infiltration in the U.S. government. Internment of the Japanese came under the original New Deal Democrat president Franklin Roosevelt. The era of Jim Crow laws was governed by southern Democrats like Alabama governor George Wallace and Mississippi senator Jim Eastland http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Fmr-ACORN-head-calls-Tea-Parties-bowel-movement-and-claims-theyre-coming-after-you-91754964.html Talk about fear mongering. And if there ever was a question as for ACORN being shut down this alone is reason enough. Who would have thought ACORN was run by a Socialist. |

I still dont get what is wrong with the label socialist,, depending upon whose definition the person is referring to,,,
in any case, she is extreme but I dont happen to think she is far off,,,(except I dont think it is the fault of any 'tea party', rather than just a general movement in the attitudes of americans at large) to quote the part of her quote which rings true "I'm young, I'm Democratic, and I'm a socialist," is okay with me. You know that's no light thing to do -- to actually say, I'm a socialist. You've got to know, actually, we are living in a time that's going to dwarf the McCarthy era.,,,,, she reflects my own opinion that the new accusatory label is not the n word but the S word. It has been being thrown around like a basketball at a seal convention and it has DEFINITELY been made clear that it is the lowest of all things to be. The McCarthy era permitted officials to make these claims about others to the detriment of their lives and the lives of their families, and I see a similar thing happening except not at a government level(yet). |

'Democrat'. No difference - especially in the 'knowledge base' [sic]. Far as I can tell, we were NEVER interned by the Japanese in this country. We interned 20,000 Japanese Nisei during WWII, but her 'logical construct' [sic] leaves much to be desired by way of accuracy. Then, she's not interested in silly things like 'accuracy' - she's interested in the 'Show me the MONEY!' part ... and 'emotionalism' gets her there. Well, that and lying ... She's right about one thing, tho' - 'The ONE' and his psychophants ARE coming after us ... true dat. |

One problem I do have is that you say they word socialist is a label being used like the N word ![]() |

Actually you are right. Most of those using Socialist, Liberal, Commy, Ect, don't even know what the words mean. They are using them as you said as a derogatory terminology that they were taught was a bad thing and they ran with it. They don't know what the words mean. We have socialized government here in this country. Medicare is socialized medicine as is Medicaid. We have socialized food assistance programs like foodstamps. None of which means we are a socialized country nor does it mean we will ever be such. Being Liberal means that you feel people should have equal rights to do what this country promises, Pursue life, love and happiness. Everyone, not just those like them. Communism is not something we will ever have to worry about here unless the people of this country somehow convert to communism and vote in communists. Sure is less extreme when explained. |

One problem I do have is that you say they word socialist is a label being used like the N word ![]() absolutely not. I didnt post an agreement with anything she said beyond the socialist remark. I have no issue with people organizing according to common philosophies or principles or whatever and dont agree with condemning ANY group by the actions of minorities within it. Even so, the terminology she used was pretty specific to her and not really a term I am hearing with any regularity,,unlike the S word. The S word is for now just starting to build momentum, and although it is not a RACIAL slur it may have just as much power to condemn people if it is permitted to reach the level of government. |

As for Acorn. I do believe that there were good people in the organization trying to do good things.
And it is sad to see that they were targeted by hateful people and the whole organization was demonized. But that is how hatred works best. Demonize the object you dislike so that you can make others believe it is bad and then you can commit crimes against it with approval from your mislead throng. That is how lynching parties worked back in our ignorant past. |

another odd thing I have noticed, an inconsistency in logic if you will
while I am opposed to labeling any group by the actions of a few in it,,,,,I have noticed that others flip this type of logic to suit their purpose or belief case in point,,,some people are very quick to believe in conspiracies and plants when mention is made of racists at tea party rallies,, but never consider that possibility when some in the ACORN organization behave illegally? Why is the possibility there with one group or not the other? Either we are always going to hold the organization responsible for the actions and words of their members or we aren't?,,,,,which is it,,,? |

Considering that Acorn was actually a main name for many many organizations that assisted in the community. So lots of programs lost their funding because of this witch hunt.
