In another story from Arizona, but one that's attracting less attention than that state's check your documents anti-immigration law, a nun in Phoenix has been ex-communicated after approving a live-saving abortion. Sister Margaret McBride was excommunicated for approving an abortion without which, doctors say, both the woman and her 11-week-old fetus would have died. According to Thomas Olmsted, the Bishop of Phoenix, approving an abortion is an excommunicating offense -- period.

"If a Catholic formally cooperates in the procurement of an abortion, they are automatically excommunicated by that action," said Bishop Olmstead.

Funny how that automatic excommunication clause doesn't kick in when it comes to the sexual abuse of children and rape.

As the Church abuse scandal is revealed, for decade upon decade, the Church not only cooperated with child rapists but has protected them from prosecution, even promoting them to the very top of the Church hierarchy.

This Church, which flexed every once of its political muscle to strangle hard-won reproductive rights out of this country's health insurance laws, is subsidized by US Taxpayers -- not only through public funding of Catholic Churches -- but also through blanket tax exemptions.

Perhaps its time we checked their documents. Are priests in this country legally? Have they read the Constitution? Do they grasp the basics of our -- legal system? Or do they not? And how long are we going to keep allowing, not to mention funding these creeps?

as unpopular as it will be, I believe in consistency,,,if the excuse for the passive attitude towards pedophilia/homosexuality is forgiveness than this should be forgiven too

otherwise, both should call for excommunication

It is ironic and border line insane the topix people and the media choose to hype. The same good folks who moan and groan about illega immigration ignore the unpleasant realities of the homo pedophile priests. Damn the hard working people who pluck the feathers from our Mcchickens and ignore the priests charged with the salvation of our wicked souls. Its ok for priests to molest children but not Ok for two people of the same sex to get "married". Oh what times we live in.

Excommunication means nothing. Maybe in the Twelfth Century or so, when people lived in fear of 'losing their immortal soul' or being 'consigned to the fires of hell', that kinda threat had some power. Today, what's the penalty associated with being 'excommunicated' ... ? They can't even wipe the songs off your iPod ... It's a 'punishment without penalty' ...

I don't see a correlation between illegal immigration/abortion/sexual deviance by priests..

Anyway, the Catholic church is in total support of illegal immigration.

The vast majority of latin americans are catholic.

In all honesty the same "real americans" who are moaning and groaning and helping the republicans create yet another wedge issue will be the same ones who end up plucking the chickens after they deport the illegals. Isnt it the republican way to blame the victim anyhow? Ignore those fat cats who hire cheap illegals and deport the poor folks who will do the dirty jobs most americans are unwilling to do.

The point I am trying to make is how the media and individuals treat certain topics. What is the greater horror? illegal immigration or priest who bugger little boys? Both stories are from Arizona by the way. One topic gets all the attention and the other hardly a whisper by the vast right wing media.

We were never able to buy featherless chicken before the illegals came?

How about landscaping? Our yards were dirt and no bushes or sidewalks?

Construction? we lived under trees before the illegals came and started building our houses?

farming.... I guess we ate the bark off the trees we lived under for food, before the illegals came and planted and picked our crops..

this must have been a really Sh*tty place to live before the illegals came to do all the work we just didn't want to do..

Actually, 'blame the victim' is a 'Democrat' specialty. Nice try at spin, tho' ... btw, the 'real Americans' you talk about so dismissively WILL take those jobs IF they could be OFFERED them ... that's one more thing the 'democrats' don't want happenin', 'cuz that would mean their base of ILLEGAL 'voters' wouldn't be able to make no monies to stay here illegally. I love those buzzwords like 'fat cats' from the Libtard playbook that are just sprinkled like so much coconut on the icing of the comment. The 'poor folks' who get all the 'faux simpatico' are ILLEGALLY HERE. They SHOULD be deported.

I am sure even you could get a job plucking chickens if you would agree to the brutal conditions and low pay.

I dont support illegal immigration I am against the police state type tactics used to stop it. I am sure if the laws would punish those who hire them the problemb would be solved without people being ordered to "present your papers" like at some nazi checkpoint.

Your introduction makes it look like abortion, is exclusive to Arizona. What is your purpose for that?

Now, is that the nun is not, wonder if she's hot!

I offer no disparagement to cathlic folks or the priest who don't practice boppin' lil boys.

I do offer condemnation to those catholics who would want those animals protected and their horrific acts covered up.

When I was in the Air Force I was stationed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. We drove to El Paso and went to Juarez atleast once per month. Coming back on interstate 25 about 15 miles inside of New Mexico there is a checkpoint. Every single car must stop. Every single car is searched. You MUST produce identification. This was 12 years ago. I didn't hear anyone bitching about it then. What is different now?
