What's the health care system like in China?
Is it any different for foreignors than for the general public?

There really is no health care system to speak of in China...Everyone
pretty much pays cash, or they dont get help.
This is why they have 2 divisions in their hospitals...TCM (traditional
chinese medicine) And then western medicine. TCM is much less expensive
and is utilized alot!
It is the same for foreign people..either you have the money up front or
you dont get the health care.
This is why families live together. The kids take care of their parents
as there are no nursing homes here...
Even when in the hospital you usually have a family member or friend
there to help with your needs as there will be only one nurse per floor.
The reason I know is I teach on a medical campus....

I hate to ask but what about those that can't pay?

Makes me appreciate our "flawed" system here even more.

They don't get care...simple as that...turned away...
This is why TCM is so important in this country...most of the small
villages only utilize TCM...
It's a very hard issue in this country...
Even posing that question to my students, who are 3rd and 4th year
medical students...they say they would have to turn them away...The need
is great here, but there is only enough to go around...
So...they do what they have to do...it's pretty black and white here.
And you hear no one crying of it...but accepting what they must live
with....trying to better their lives along the way
