I know this is going to end up down in parenting section but....

What would you pay a 17 year old who is watching your three year old from 7:30 am until 4 pm or later and your three other children after they get home from school? They were paying her $30 a day.

Now, lady she babysitting for wants to pay her less than $3 an hour for watching, dressing, feeding and cleaning up and washing her little one who still has "accidents" in her pants. So that means Katie has to do laundry too and when the older kids get home, she has to put up with their attitudes. Not to mention cleans the kitchen after they all get fed. They have even asked her to stay overnight to help with the feed/cook for the kids and don't think they should have to pay her extra.

My daughter does internet schooling so she is helping with buying groceries because of hard times right now, with the money she makes babysitting. That is her choice to help with household bills, we didn't tell her too. She does her schooling at night when she gets home so she can graduate.

Joy, I can't believe this woman wants to pay her between $15 and $20 a day now, for babysitting between nine and twelve hours a day.

Well it's like any other job really.
If $3 is the average hourly wage for babysitting in that area then it is what it is.
I would certainly hope that all the duties and responsibilities were specified when the wage was agreed to and not heaped on after a while.

when i was younger i used to babysit this kid on the weekends and sometimes during the week and she was paying $5 a day so that was 50cents a hour
thats crazy

and now some people would be willing to pay even min wage

This lady thinks she can manipulate your daughter because she is young. I highly doubt she will be able to find someone else to do it for that price. I say tell her to stand her ground. $30 a day is the least she should get. She needs to put her foot down before they take advantage anymore.

No, they other duties were heaped on after because she was told the older ones would do chores. About a week after taking the job, it was inferred that she might as well do it since the kids weren't doing chores.

I was getting $5 an hour when I was babysitting, 28 years ago.

Myka, she is getting paid $30 a day right now and I think she is still being underpaid.

She is doing the work of a housekeeper and a babysitter and only getting paid the salary of a neighborhood kid mowing lawns.frustrated

That's really unfortunate and I've been in her shoes when I was younger. Some money is better than no money but I agree shes being taken advantage of.

I don't know what the going rate is, but it'll keep going on this way unless she puts her foot down. A lot of employers do this as long as they can

Oh that is just wrong plus cook and clean sounds like she is taking advantage of her good nature. she should ask for a 10 dollar raise. Hell you work lunch in a restaurant for 4 hours and make much more. even part time jobs at minium after 5 hours there is your 30. Get her momgrumble

She needs to be paid more money. Minimum wage here in MI is over 7 bucks an hour.

Daycares here charge $2.85 per hour for the first child and then $1.85 an hour for each additional child in the family. Just in daycare expenses that lady would be charged more then $30 a day. If housework was included I would definitely be charging a lot more.

Everyone she knows told her she was getting ripped off, but she was happy to get a job, and 200-300 dollars a week sounded really good to her.
