Well, of the many things I got to do today one of them was taking out a Yellow Jacket nest that was made in the handle of a Hose Reel, the kind with wheels on it so you can roll it around.

I actually felt kind of guilty doing it since they are predators and do keep pest insects down but imagine being the poor person to grab the handle not knowing what lay in wait within it. I used a hose on them the last time to drive them out but they didn't take no for an answer.

But I still felt guilty. And worst is I feel guilty for feeling guilty. So what is wrong with me?

And yes I am almost laughing while I post this becasue it is also funny to me in a complicated sort of way. Seriously, think about being the poor person to get a hand full of Yellow Jacket nest! There was a good number of them too.

But still, this lingering guilt on guilt. Someone cheer me up! I need it.

I have outlawed hose reels as a result, lol. I had one, only mine was full of red wasps.. you know, the kind that could power a battleship? The ones that look like mini helicopters? the ones that make you cuss like a sailor?

Just popping in to say hi. I do have a safe alternative to petroleum based sprays, (this is especially useful around shrubs, and other plant material.) If you have a coffee maker, and most folks do, pour in the water. In the decanter, a few squirts of dish washing liquid. When the pot is full, then you have a deadly insect killer.

Wasps, ants. and other exoskeletal insects, cannot not breath if the shell is coated. Soap will shut them down, the only purpose of hot water, is to shock them, initially. Try it, it is highly effective.

Once you have eliminated them, spray your plants with a good blast of water. Plants also, need oxygen to survive.

you can also spray them with windex...it stuns them.

you then pick them up and move them elsewhere, lol...where they revive all healthy-like.

Why? they are nothing but pests. I suppose somewhere in Gods plan, there is some purpose for them, though i didn't get the memo....

The only positive, is, the larvae in a wasp nest make great bait for sunfish... other than that, you have hidden paper nests full of eggs and can be attacked within .04 seconds. This, to me, is not a pleasant experience.

So far I have encountered sweat bees, horse flies, mud dobbers and one real bee. I felt sorry for the mud dobbers because they take care of the spiders. But those horse flies can really bite. And those sweat bees are just irritating. I have no compassion for horse flies at all.

i can't kill anything...i just can't.

if there's a wasp in the house, my daughter removes it with her hands. all life is...sacred to us. well, as sacred as something to an atheist can get, i guess.
