The older i get, the harder it's gonna be. you see, because of my lack of life experiance, people my age are older than me, its just the truth. I never had the life experiance that most 40 year olds have because everyone just overprotected me. I am gullable and not very "streetwise", so it's very easy for someone to take advantage of me. Because i've been overprotected all my life and i was stifled from doing certain things that normal people would do when they "grow up". I just never "grew up", i just wasn't allowed to and because of that i can not relate to other people my age because they been through alot of stuff i haven't, don't you think it would make a little sense that i would end up with a woman in her 20s? With as little life experience as i have, it would just seem easier. Not that i'm that picky about age or anything, it's that i still live a life of a teenager, have been for 20 years.

I wouldn't mind a woman in her 20s either, in fact Lupita is 22. Its just my family would not be too excited about that. And i would probely have to live with thier disaproval.

It sounds like you're blaming others and making excuses for your lack of life experience. You're going to need to get over that and start taking some responsibility for yourself if you want to seem more grown up.

At your age do you really think your parents approval is that important. It's your life not theirs so you must fend for yourself. I think you would rather have their disapproval rather than grow up and learn to be responsible. I've always been very sheltered, came in before midnight and all the rest of the controllng. It's time you stand up and be a man.

I think both Singme and Seakonloy both hit something.

Your family should be there to protect you. But, not overprotect you. If you grow up in a bubble then once you get out in the world you're lost. It really can be a cruel world out there and you should be prepared. I grew up in town that wasn't completely all 'gold, diamonds and daisys'. It was a small town and everybody knew everything. I still remember my father telling me when I was young that if I ever got into a fight (which was inevitable) that I better win or I'll get my a$$ kicked when I get home. I'm not and never was a violent person(unless I ABSOLUTELY HAD to), but you bet I knew how to fight when that time arose! He wasn't much of a father while I was high school and gone while I was in college (and mostly to this day), but I do appreciate that one lesson he taught me. Both mentally and physically. Take that as you will.

ARE YOU JUDGING ME?? The term "Life is what you make it" is FALSE and UNBIBLICAL There is no such thing as "Free will" in a sense where we always control what happens to us. we only have conrtrol and "free will" over our actions and reactions. If that little fairytale "Life is what you make it" is true, your life would be perfect...its not is it.

He was just trying to give you some advice but apparently you are not in a position to do so....don't think it was an insult in anyway....just what most people do that do not physical complications that make them rely on their family.......when you palce something in the forums for people to respond to you must take all the responses without them knowing your situation and take it rather than taking insult to it because you have feelings that make you react to it........if you wish them to make commenbts with all the facts then give them all the facts....JMO

Don't expect experiences to always bring maturity. I can remember my dad saying that when his wife got forty he wanted to trade her in for two twenties. And you just want one half your age. See you are already cheating yourself. How are you going to make up for the missing twenty?

I grew up in a very controlled environment. I've been very fortunate in having friends to help me, but everyday I am amazed by what I don't know that people 10 - 20 years younger do. But I would never consider dating someone 20 yrs younger.

Keep in mind that all we have to go on is what you've said here. You are the ones who told us that your parents did not allow you to grow up. Now, as an adult, you say you're still not grown up. Take responsibility for your own life and make it into what you want it to be. If you're unwilling to do that, then you'll just be stuck where you are now.

As for my own life, no it isn't perfect, but it's pretty good. I'm happy with it.

I really think that what would change your life, for the better, is a good speech therapy program and one that can be found within an assisted living community type thing. You could start looking at community programs for Autism. Or maybe one that could provide you with the skills to move eventually from your mothers care to your own.

Asperger syndrome can make communication with others strenuous for you, obviously, but you CAN learn the scripts necessary for appropriate interaction.

Independent living would give you a greater sense of self worth and make your family proud of you as well...because you absolutely CAN be like a typical 40yr old. You just need instruction, while the rest of us do not.... Its totally not fair but it can work for you for the better and you can be happy and fulfilled. Its what you deserve.

Nice......I knew I had heard the term but hadn't had the chance to re-familiarize myself.....again....and we have an entire school in our county devoted to the mental trainable.......my own son is in a papallel program with the Howard T Ennis program in Delaware.......he works with speech therapists and such and suffers seizure of which he has not had one in over a year....he actually just went through another surgery for his VNS........we plan to start moving his meds down to see how he reacts......hopefully one day he will not have to worry about it but the meds and VNS....has affected how fast he learns and right now he is 11 and almost to first grade level......but he learning many things.....like I take him fishing.....he helps clean and does yard work..........he helps care for the animals.....he takes nature walks with me.....etc. he can do very hands on mechanical learning very well.......he reminds me of of myself taking things apart and putting them back together......I fixed everything in the house for my mother that was a single mother.......he helps me change the oil and do tune ups to the car......I think he will survive okay....he is emergent reading and picking out words in the books now though and is doing simple math problems....easter seals is great for helping to teach self sufficiency as well for those with disabilities

WTF is wrong with your 5 key?

Anyway, on topic: DBR; this is purely my recommendation...try some social clubs or gatherings of some sort. Get out, meet people close to your age, and learn to socialize with them.

Because, honestly, if you can't even see yourself with someone your age you will probably fall flat with someone that is 20 years younger.

huh?

For 20 years you've lived the life of a 20 year old?

SO you have a job, pay rent, drive a car, cook, clean, and pay your bills on time?

My perception is....you blame others for YOUR decision to be irresponsible, and unaccountable for your actions...you are 40....tough Sh*te...not 20...

and if you use your excuse of being 'over-protected' and 'sheltered' to justify you dating 20 year olds...I hope it keeps you warm at night.

in life, irrespective of age or circumstance, we have to own our OWN stuff...

...and your reactiveness to a respectful response to your question shows your fragile justifications won't stand up to scrutiny.
