What is interesting is to see cognitive dissonance in action. That a person can in one breath claim to follow gods will, then in another admit they fashion the understanding of that will from internal sources.

Most people who claim to follow God's will are usually speaking of what they understand from religious teaching of what that might be. Sometimes their perception of what "God's will" is does not agree with their own sense of ought so they feel either ignorant or guilty. That's when they are told how ignorant they are about the nature of God and that they should "trust" in God.

More independent thinking people might fashion their understanding of what God's will is from their own internal sources, hoping that they are right.

For me, I say that God's will and my will are the same. There are universal laws in place and they are working just fine. What I want and desire in my life, God wants and desires me to have. In the sense that God lives and has Its being in its manifestations, I am God made flesh, as are all humans.

Therefore as we channel this creative spirit rather than separate ourselves from it, we become it. We become Gods. That is our evolutionary path.

Every theist thinks god is on there side despite conflicting positions, the sense of ought is claimed to be objective, but then shown to be subjective and never again thought about. To admit that feelings are flawed to base your actions upon but then have nothing better to base gods will upon . . .

My sense of ought is far easier to understand without these contradictions, definition shifting, and double standards thanks!

Sense of ought is subjective, otherwise it would not be called "sense" it would be called "law."

The pure of heart always act according to God's will. The spiritually ill, and the dysfunctional do not.

You are pure of heart when you are filled with love.

You are diseased when you are filled with hate, fear, etc.

Ok - this is a recall. I've asked this question several times over the last several years with little to show for the asking as this older thread indicates.

There are so many people who feel that non-believors have nothing to guide their morals, and without god there is no purpose to life.

That thinking, that attitide begs the quesiton -

what service to god does the bible say to offer?

To obey the 10 Commandments and implement the teaching of the Christ. To lay down your nets and follow me

to love God, to love his son and to love our brother as ourself, and to do unto others as we would have to ourselves

further clarifications are found most easily in the sermon on the mount - anything done within keeping of God's law and the teaching of the Christ is done in the service of God (in Christianity) - even small things like...washing dishes and weeding a garden. actions in the service of God do not have to be grandiose designs

other faiths may have other ideas but from what I know of a few other faiths I think much is in keeping with the above (but said in each his own way)

How do Christians SERVE god and how do they know that it's the service god wants?

Christians serve God by obeying the Christ and living a life in keeping with the Christ as much as possible. The New Testament God, however, makes much room for our humanity in the forgiveness of sins

God appreciates any act of the pure in heart. being pure in heart is the easiest way to know that your service is wanted ...beyond that I don't really know as we cannot know all of what God wants....

please be easy on me in judgement of my answer - I have at least tried to provide the best answer I can based on a little bit of knowledge that I have of my faith and bible
