Is it a lie if you say it to not hurt someone? Like when we tell my Dad he is just getting forgetful instead of getting him all upset by telling him he has Alzheimer's?

But if it is about something serious, damaging something, hurting someone or something bigger than that, it can come back and bite you on the tookus.
well honestly if it was me i would like someone to tell me the truth if i had Alzheimer's and try to explain what it is to him flowerforyou

We did that the first couple of times, but listening to him scream and curse at everyone and everything and cry for the next 20 minutes just isn't worth it. He then brings up something that his father once told him, that he was "stupid" and then cries his father was right about him all these years.

This disease sux because long-term memories are bright as day but things said five minutes ago, never happened.
yes its very sad sorry to hear but its not me saying if its right to have a white lie or not its in the Bible and if the bible is the word of God we can't take are own ways i guess it be better to change a different topic with him then lie i suppose:)

This is going to end up in the Religion section b/c it's getting to deep... BUT Cheers, you're trying to tell us that you go by every single thing the bible says? Really????
no i never said that i said that God said lies are wrong and the topic is about lies i only asking opinions and thats all

But you keep bringing up what it says in the Bible when an opinion is given therefore, I'd think you'd abide by the WHOLE thing rather than just one part.... If you only one to deal with one part then deal with the "why's" not just repeating "but it says in the Bible"... That's all I'm saying...

I pray you never have to take care of someone with this disease, Cheer... You find yourself doing things you don't like, just to keep them calm. My Dad gets violent (something he never did before this) when he gets told he is sick.
well tell you the truth i took care of people with the disease and also took care of a lady that had a tumer in her brain with cancer but i never lied to either of them but i know its hard

Not the same thing.. They weren't your family.. The emotional investment is different...
well my mom had cancer but not the brain it was a very close person that had the cancer of the brain was my exgirlfiend of over 10 years and i was holding her hand in the hospital with doctors there when she past away with my ex so was a very close person n also mygrandfather was ill too and friends i knew so was family sorry to say

I think those are harmless fairy tales.. Who is it hurting? It's a fun belief along with the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny... I don't see that it's an issue....

You can't change the subject.....he remembers that he just asked a question and he wants an answer for that question. If you change the subject, he starts banging his cane on the ground and slamming his fists into the door or wall. The easiest way to calm him down is to just say "Dad you are just getting forgetful, there is a lot going on."

I think God will forgive us for telling him that so that he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else. If we didn't and Dad wound up hitting Mom and hurting/killing her, wouldn't that be worse?
but you not really lieing cause he does get forgetfull so thats not a lie you just didnt tell him the name of it thats all:)

Children are being forced to grow up so fast that I don't think things like that are bad. Imagination is a wonderful thing for children and everyone else too, they will find out soon enough that they are fables. But let the joy and wonder in a child's eyes last for more than 3 years. After that they are being thrown in Pre-school, pre- kindergarten, kindergarten and then the next 12 to 16 learning about life.

I love Santa and that will never change.. I love being Santa and that will never change... My favorite memory of my childhood is Santa and even when I found out it was knowing that my parents made such special memories...

NO it's not, it's a fairy tale.. See what Eileen said.. Life is not black and white.. There are many gray areas and the more people that realize that and accept it the more content/happy people we'll have in the world... Geez, get literal much??

why do people need to lie to kids to make them happy can't they give kids a beautiful gift and say its from thier mom or dad and instead of a santa claus?

Why ask why? Don't lie to your kids when you have them and then you're true to your beliefs and let others do what they want to do... No kid that I've ever heard of has gone berserk when he/she has heard that Santa isn't real... My gosh!

Then I guess we better start burning books again because they are all filled with fiction and that means they are all lies. We wouldn't want anyone to read them and be lied to.... Telling children things that are FABLES that will help add to their imaginations as they get older is the way things get invented.... Think about it....if the Wright brothers were never told about Icarus' flight to the sun and melting his wings, do you think they would have bothered to try and make an airplane????

I think it can be.. I don't have to take things SO LITERALLY... I don't believe in seeing things as just one way or the other... I can have it any way I want it.. God gave me a mind that can think and sort things out.. I don't think he wanted people to be lemmings and if he did then call me a sinner b/c my mind won't let me do that..
