In the Bible, Jesus tells several perables. These are stories meant to teach a moral and/or spiritual value. Like the perable of the prodigal son, it told a story that conveyed the message that we are always within God's grace.

Taken literally, one could say that Jesus lied because the people in the parable never existed.

I think my point is clear on this???
did God give us the comandment of thou shall not lie?how more clear is that?

Okay. Did the prodigal son exist???
the topic is are all lies wrong? not if the prodigal son exist and the comandment to men and women on earth was thou shall not lie and a fable is a type of lie so are you saying some lies in your opinion are ok and others are not?

once again, the commandment is actually this

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
well if you say false witness what is that? a lie right? but if you look at Proverbs 14 and verse 5 says a faithful witness is one that will not lie but a false witness launches forth mere lies also prob 6 and 19 :) Noun 1. false witness - a person who deliberately gives false testimony perjurer liar , prevaricator - a person who has lied or who lies repeatedly<<< definition

Oh My Gosh, what has happened here.  How can it get so disturbing when people are asked to state their opinion, WE all have our own.

Cheer Up, You asked for peoples opinions, and please dont take this wrong, because you are a wonderful guy love LOL my Gosh I would marry if you were older rofl rofl But people have given you their honest opinions and you have knocked them down, Yes I believe that lying is wrong, I have a strong belief in God and his word although I have not been walking with him for a long time.
But if someone else feels that they have a reason to lie then it is not for me to judge them, In the bible it tells me that I am not allowed to, if someone is doing something wrong then God will put it on their heart when he wants to, he doesnt use people to accuse. someone pointing the finger in Gods name will only push them further from him  . Please dont take this wrong as this is only my opinion and I will not for any reason ever argue with anyone. It shows nothing but the need to be right. Remember no one is wrong in this thread as it is our own opinion.

As for Santa, I love the story of him, but my children alway knew he wasnt real. I told them that He was a real man who made gifts for children and then took them around in his sleigh to deliver them to children who didnt have things, this was how the story of santa began. This is actually true, however we still had great fun visiting santa in the shops, it is the same with the tooth fairy and all the other childrens things, my children have always known the truth but only because I chose to tell them, not because someone told me I had to, that is what I believe. I love fairytails, my son thinks that I live in a fairytale world because I like to think that everyone will always be nice to me. And he trys to tell me that their are bad things out there, but I dont choose to see that in anyone. Hmm started to ramble there.

Anyway Cheer Up you are great, but if you want people to open up to you, Maybe if you could put your opinion across with a little more love it would go down easierflowerforyou with my children when they do something I dont agree with, if I tell them that they have to do something as an order they tend to rebel, which is understandable because noone wants to be told that they have to do something:angry: But if I sit down and lovingly take the time to explain why I think that they need to make a different choice, they listen, and even if they dont agree, we never have to be upset with each other. And with 6 children in the house you definately dont want them offended.

Anyway I just found it really sad that a great topic could turn out so wrong:cry:

And I really hope I havent upset anyone, but as with everyone else, we are all allowed to have our own opinion and hopefully be able to share it with each other and recieve no judment for what we say. You are all great. And as for God the Bible also says that he looks at each persons heart. so he see's what you are doing and why. and he is a God of forgiveness and love, and it will always be whats in your heart when you do something that he will look at first . Please all try and remember that his greatest comandment is to love .flowerforyou
i have not JUDGED one person on this thread or have a put down no 1 on this thread all i did was state what the bible says about lies i not telling people not to lie i am stating in the bible it states not to lie thats all and if people want to lie if it helps them for the time being so be it but in the bible it says its not right not me GOD and its thier choice i going from Gods word the bible and as i keep staing over and over a lie is a lie small or big? right? thats all i am pointing out? but its up to the person to use thier knowledge wisely by trying to go by Gods word or thier own :)

I am Curious on your comments about this cause in the Bible says thou shall not Lie now what do you think about Lies???

Everyone lies for one reason or another..if lies really are bad then there is NO REASON for a heaven because everyone lies..If someone tells you that they never lie..that's their lie right there!..lol
no its called repetative lies over and over the same lie and if a person knows its wrong and i not planing on going to heaven in the bible it states a paradise on earth too:)

There are several examples in the Bible where lies were told in order to protect life. There is even a "righteous" man who told one.

Did those Germans who lied to protect Jews and others do wrong? I think not...

So my opinion...
A lie to protect life = good.
All other lies = bad.

All lies are wrong. "Thou shall not lie". There are no subtitles, fine print, or anything. No exceptions. Says straight up THOU SHALL NOT LIE.

 Ok Cheer Up, I agree that a lie is a lie, I just believe that there are ways to put things across to others and gently is much better then having it shoved down your neck with a shovel.

Sometimes we do so much more damage with force. I painted on my wall a few years ago "God said it, I believe it, That settles it." and I still believe that it not that you are saying anything wrong, its just how you are delivering it, flowerforyou honestly if I didnt know God and read this page I sure wouldn't want to know him where is the caring and understanding, just be a little moe gentle , I have been to churches where because my husband was a drop kick the poeples children whernt allowed to associate, with mine, where I was repeatedly sent back to an abusive husband because apparently I need to be an example to her husband. Dont ever turn into someone who just uses the word of God but doesnt use their heart to see. flowerforyou flowerforyou

yes, but websters definition came centuries after the bible was written, so I have to go on what was going on during biblical times and take that in context,,,to mean exactly what it says , do not lie on your neighbor

Correct... And if one wishes to be litteral in interpretation, I personally don't see how anyone could see an enemy as a neighbor.

But anyways, since it was said "Says straight up THOU SHALL NOT LIE.", I wonder how anyone can defend Sunday as the Sabath?

Exodus 20:8 (KJV)
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
