Word of warning about Elderly care. It can get overwhelming and I have seen that first hand. Make sure you have external support like people to cover for you in your absence. Likewise you will need to find some professional guidance in the area since again there are things about it that can overwhelm you quickly. A friend of mine lost it trying to take care of his elderly mother. He shortly afterwords had a heart attack.

It is stressful. Make sure you likewise have a stress management plan. If not you will get consumed by taking care of your parents. Since you are online go to the State of Tennessee's Social Services website

http://www.ssa.gov/atlanta/southeast/index.htm

This is a good place to start. Call them up and ask questions. You may have to play Phone tag and you may have to call a few numbers but this should lead you to what you are looking for quickly. They can also point you towards other free and low cost help in support of your parents!

I will tell you, it is consuming. I have been caring for my deceased husband's mother for the last 2 years. I am making plans to transition her to a nursing home. She is ambulatory and for the most part is stable. She has what is known as benign memory loss and takes Aricept. It is my understanding it is a stage of dementia. I have decided I am not going to continue because of signs of burnout. I have help from my daughters. I was promised help from relatives. They do not. I cared for my husband while he was dying and now his mother. Her life in itself is consumed only by her limitations and what was. There is no alternative but to take from the caregiver, your energy and time. They can do nothing else.
I do not say this to be mean, only to share a perspective that exists. It is most difficult to separate your heart motives from what needs to be clinical. Choose your support and lots of it. Make a business plan. It will be of tremendous value to your health.
