in my opinion politically correct means shut up you dont want to offend anyone(don't state the obvious truth) haha it's getting ridiculous for example having lived in miami during the holidays there was a big issue with christmas decorations.........they simply were not allowed yet the jewish menorah was everywhere someone got offended ...then there's the race issue if a white person disagrees with a black or latino politician's views or the way he is doing his or her job it is considered racist could probably go on and on giving examples of this

having served in the U.S Marine Corps to uphold, defend the U.S constitution(per the oath i took at mepps swearing in ceremony) i do not care who i offend and will always exercise my right to free speech and expect other americans to do the same we are all offended at some time or another people just need to stop being cry babies

I think 'politically correct' just means 'socially acceptable' and changes with the culture and the times

I will always protest criminalizing speech(unless its inciting to riot), but I wont always protest the consequences people face 'socially' for their choices...

every action has a consequence, even speech

as are opinions and facts

this forum usually asks the opinions of others
but it makes the facts contributed in the process no less significant

I think politically correct PRACTICE is always changing based upon what is socially acceptable PRACTICE,

I speak my mind all the time and I am politically correct.

A person can say anything in a way that is not offensive.

Political correctness is just being respectful to others.

That is a good thing.

the term 'poliically correct' is stupid!!!

oops my bad, was that politically incorrect to say?!?!?!?

I agree. I consider it an intelligent use of words that allow others to be respected in the process of communication.

So what constitutes "social acceptability?" The choice of a hand full of people vs. the vast majority? It always seems that the PC crowd we hear about is not the majority. Now this is an odd example but it does illustrate the point...

Pre Queen Victoria if a woman wanted to walk outside bare breasted in England she could. The English (and me for that matter) like our Jumblies! Now comes the tarantula Queen Victoria and she decides the woman's body (actually she felt the Human body in general) vulgar so she deemed it necessary to cover everything but the hands and face. Thankfully since the 1940's a lot of hard work has gone into getting women into less clothing ( FRIKKEN AYE GREAT STUFF FROGGY! ). And now the concept of Nude Beaches. Why is it in America Nude Beaches are so feared? All of the nudists I know are not demented sick perverts like myself (HA HA HA HArofl ). People of any character are not having sex in public. Actually true nudists discourage sexual behavior on the beaches becasue of it being a family environment to them, a clothing optional Disneyland for them. And yet some Governerd hears some religious fruitcups crying about naked people and depraved acts of sexual perversion in front of their children and he shuts it down on everyone. This is done in the face of a majority of people who could care less.

I see Political Correctness as a buzz word for Thought Control!

Thank you!

Oh, I worship his shadow!

(Watch Lexx and you will get an idea of what that means! Life in a totalitarian society ruled under perfect order... Oh Yeah!)

it seems like alot of things when we only count on limited observation,,, its not so much about what the majority want or dont want as much as what they DO(in other words how VOCAL and ACTIVE they are in affecting the change they want to see)

we are in the spot we are in because of the VOCAL majority, which is something totally different than the ACTUAL majority

Just becasue a few people make a bunch of noise doe not mean it is right or a majority just becasue it is louder. There are a lot of people from the school of hard knocks and like others have said some people need to grow a backbone or was it thicker skin. I personally feel PC people have no backbone. they yell a lot but when they have to give blood and sweat they fall short.

"PC" really does not have a specific definition(it's subjective) as people and entities such as the US media seem free to just say "hey that's not politically correct" to anything they do not agree with.

in my opinion political correctness is what is ruining this country and sadly one day will probably lead to the loss of our right to free speech in this nation.

I agree. In some ways it already has.

I will try to keep this as PC as possible just so I don't get booted...
I also agree being PC is ridiculous. I think it would be great if we could just drop the whole PC crap. Derogatory names are just words as far as I am concerned and words cannot describe me, I have to be experienced. laugh

I will use this as an example, If I were to be approached by a man of a different race. He was very angry for something I did or he thought I did, and started using racial slurs while talking to me in an attempt to enrage me. (I have heard quite a few racial slurs concerning Caucasians) I don't think I would get mad at all, I find the words funny. I would not be able to help myself in laughing, now I would not be laughing at the man, but the words. I just think they sound funny, not hurtful, they are after all just words.

Now in our PC world we say the "N-word", which I think is ridiculous. Now why do we say it like that? Because it is offensive to say the actual word. Now what is more offensive saying the word or the PC way to describe it. For me either way should be offensive if one is the other should be to. If I don't say it then I say it in a way that you say it in your own head, therefore theoretically I just made you say it to yourself. Just because something is not vocalized does not make it any less offensive in my opinion.

I just wish we could all realize that they are just that, words. I guess the old saying isn't true any more...Sticks and stones may hurt me but words never will..
