All depends. I am snarky, sarcastic, but it's rare when I am mean or rude. My ex, however, used it to put me down constantly. Just depends on what the intention is behind it.

If I have a few drinks, the nice filter disappears and sarcasm runs rampant. I have been known to be a little sarcastic every so often...usually chocolate fixes that condition quickly.
Nasty sarcasm isn't appreciated, but some and a dry sense of humor are welcomed.

so as long as the intention wasn't to be hurtful sarcasm is a good thing but those who could describe themselves as such have found that at times they can take it too far?

How do you define "too far"? If people get offended by something I say, I figure that's their choice. I have no control over that. Now, I don't go out of my way to be deliberately offensive -- but I try not to overly censor myself either. Communication requires a willingness to listen on both sides, and that's not facilitated by making one or both parties angry or hurt. But there are those who are just so overly sensitive to anything and everything that you have to walk on eggshells around them, metaphorically speaking. And I'm not very good at that, and sometimes they take umbrage (I love that word) at something I've said or written. And, for the most part, I just don't see that as MY problem.... |

sarcasm is a dangerous and deadly sport and should be left to the professionals only...never try it at home alone...as it could be fatal. agree. sarcasm can also be as addictive for the dilettantes as destructive for some naive, sensitive, souls. |

..personally i have no time for it,most people when being sarcastic come off as a complete ahole..it would depend on the attitude and the way it was directed..i don't really put too much thought into the subject..if done as a sarcastic joke fine..if just being bytchy..kick friggin rocks ..i won't have a battle of wits with someone who is unarmed,'cause we can all be jerks with minimal effort,and i find that to be a complete waste of my time ..

i prefer tiolet humor & potty jokes perverse humor sometimes sarcasm...

Well thats just it to the accused they didn't see it as offensive, but for the self proclaimed victim its a different matter entirely.... What I've noticed most about people who embrace sarcasm is that they are not so easily swayed by the opinions of others...it appears that they might actually know how to think...you know for themselves |

In regards to the general list of desirable traits in people...where does sarcasm fall? dry wit or humor Hmmm being Australian and working with truckies, jackaroos and miners, I have no idea, we insult everyone and laugh at anyone who insults us. I guess it all depends on the person and culture. We have very few boundaries when it comes to fun. |
