Went to the Scottish festival at the Queen Mary this afternoon. 'Twas pretty cool... in fact it was F*ing freezing laugh.

I can't believe it hailed and hard on the way home.

You know I never could figure that out. Why would someone steal a phone. It's not going to work for long, as soon as you let the phone company know the phone is toast. And if they made any calls they become in great danger of getting caught.

Kev you assumed right.. Sorry to hear that, did you have insurance?

Davey, they can sell the phone or hook it up with their carrier.. I don't think carriers have a way to cross check serial numbers within their own network let alone each others... Verizon I would think would be the hardest to steal and use but with the sn statement above possibly not.. All other carriers use the SIM cards which they just switch out...

Some other companies don't use sim's either like sprint. But actually every cell phone even those with sim's carry an internal number that they broadcast. If you look inside any phone you'll see it, it's called an meid number in non-sim phone and imie in a sim type phone. From what I've heard they do share the database between companies on stolen phones, it's to their financial advantage to not allow stolen phones to be used. But judging by your message perhaps it's not as widely known as I had thought so I guess it would be more understandable for someone to steal a phone.

You're right, I don't think it's widely known.. I didn't know that... I do know they have the gps ability but wasn't thinking about it when I posted... It's pretty dumb to steal a phone... Or anything for that matter.... lol

I suppose the main reason I know is because I know someone who got burned buying a phone from a guy who "desperately" needed money. So I suppose there is some chance for financial gain if you move quickly enough. The phone stopped working about two hours after she got it when she took it in they told her it was stolen.
