I've managed to abandon a lot of my bad habits.....but I can't seem to quit smoking. Anybody out there have any advice? I really want to quit.....but can only seem to make it a day or two before I start losing my mind!

switch up associations you make with smoking.
if you always smoke after a meal
eat the meal in a different place.

chew on a straw.

go with the lightheadedness dizzies.
don't fight it.

stay busy.

it only takes a few days to withdrawal from nicotine.
about 21 days for the habits to lessen.
you have to hold onto the fact that
your mind
is on the other side and
this too shall pass.

you can do it!!

Good advice Bastet! Thank you! flowerforyou

Hardest time for me is when I wake up and have that first cup of coffee. I won't give up coffee however.....

change something up about that first cup of coffee. maybe go out to get it? throw something into the ritual that helps to disassociate the smokey smoke.

For leaving one habit you hv to switch over to another habit.
You can adopt another unharming habits, like chewing gum or chocolates or keep eating something always like dry fruits.

combine what bastet said about routine and combine that with "just do it" which is the only thing that really works

also keep around some info and pictures about the ill effects of smoking - join a gym & start jogging

in fact have ur morning coffee in ur car on the way to the gym in the morning that way you're not sitting around missing the feel of that butt in ur fingers

This is actually an easy one if you are serious about quitting.

Keep a small notepad with you at all times. For 1 week you simply write down what time it is when you have a cigarette. The following week you add 1 minute to that time before you allow yourself to have another. The next week 2 minutes, the next week 3 minutes. It may take a year but you will quit so gradually that you will begin to forget you even want one. I have shared this with 5 people so far who were serious about quitting and all of them have stopped. 3 more are about to.

Good Luck

this is very true...I have done this slowly over a decade! I use to pop pills, drink, & do other drugs in addition to smoking pot & ciggs! Now I read/study, train horses & dogs, exercise, etc.

Go for a short walk with your morning coffee & let that 1/2 a pack sit on your table and laugh! Outta sight...outta mind

I still smoke, so don't know if I have a right to really post this up, but gonna do it anyway, because ANYONE who puts forth an honest effort and is really trying deserves to hear all options...who knows, maybe this will be the one to help you beat it for good...Ok, here it is...a bit gross, perhaps, but was effective for me when I had attemped about 5 years ago. Take a small jar, fill it about a third to half full with water...stick about a pack or two worth of cigarette butts in it....AND, when you have the urge to smoke, unscrew the cap, and inhale deeply, as often as is necessary..Good luck to you!!!

* deciding to pick the cigs back up again, was a deliberate choice I had made after 45 days of not smoking...the above remedy, along with chew sticks, hard candy, lots of water, and more, hopefully will help!!
