Do you think a 2nd Civil War well happen in the United States?

I ask because I see such stark differences of opinions between Conservatives and Liberals that it is very frightening to see what will happen to this country in the near future. When it comes to deep issues, Congress shows little if any major positive resolutions that we need as people in this country.

14 trillion dollar deficit
Abortion Laws
Medicare
Foreign Policies
Unemployment Benefits
Retirement Benefits
Veteran Benefits
Unemployment issues
Tax issues

and the list goes on.....it just seems both sides contradict each other all the time.

So tell me how bad will it get in this country and do you think there will be a (significant) recovery showing promise for every state??

Thank you for taking the time to explain your opinions on the matter. :)

I feel we will move on to a different system of things, some of it better and some of it not

I think people have too much to loose in this country to risk their lives against fellow americans on any large scale

No chance of any kind of civil war. The police power of the Government is so awesome that it would make Libya or Syria look like a picnic.

That doesn't rule out some serious ugliness in the streets, however.

Its not going to happen.

The issues will be settled at the ballot box not in the streets.

I do agree with Artlo in that there will inevitably be some small scale skirmishes.

It won't be about toppling the government it will be more like environazis and their commie friends vs right wing nationalist types.

That I do see happening..

doubtful since your track record indicates you prefer to kill other people instead of each other...

So misguided...

Americans are all...

Each and every one of us...

Small bits of EVERY human sub-group on this planet.

The BEST small bits of every group!

Yet Americans all.

I, for one, will not rule out the possibility. I do think it is unlikely. Truth is, most people are dissatisfied with the government, not each other. That means they will likely rebel against the government through other means, such as the ballot box as one person already mentioned.

There are many ways to put pressure on our government. It is just that many citizens have been apathetic for too long. There are a number of younger or naturalized citizens that are becoming more active and vocal. There are also older, more established citizens also becoming vocal now. For the most part, these elements lack large-scale organization.

I think eventually conservatives, moderates, and liberals will band together to create the needed organization while pushing aside the extremists on both sides. What percentages will comprise this coalition? I don't know. But I can see it beginning to happen in daily life around me. More people are discussing politics with those who don't share their own views. More and more are finding that they have a common middle ground on a number of issues. This is good and healthy at the grass roots level. Now it needs to move beyond that to a regional and, eventually, a national level.

Nope.

No need to war about it.

We will work through it eventually. Either that or all of the hard core conservatives which are mostly old white men are going to pass on and the younger will be smarter and less stuck in the mud.

No child left behind is one of the best ways to dumb-down the following generations.

They are being graduated not knowing how to read, write or learning to speak English.

Actually conservatism reaps the benefits of the ignorant and misinformed. Liberalism comes from better education and more worldly understanding.

I dont know about the world understanding, but there is something to the posters theory on 'education'. When it comes to formal education, mostly tangible things are taught and often issues of conscience and morals and behavior are 'less significant' in the academic community.

So in that sense, when people are using liberal to refer to those whose values may be a bit more lax(which I think is the general implication, although I do not agree with it), its probably true that the more 'educated' one is the more lax their values will become, in many cases.

i think the more money people have, their morals and values become less... education makes people have stronger morals and values, imo

but isnt there a pretty strong correlation between money and education,,,ie, the more of it you have the better an education you can receive?

formal education does little to deny or confirm, promote or condemn, anything moral or of value,, it sticks mostly to academics which can be clearly defined and scrutinized,, which is not a condition of morals or values,,,
