i was under the impression that making threats on the internet was illegal, i could be wrong

To constitute "a communication containing a threat" under Section 875(c), a communication must be such that a reasonable person (1) would take the statement as a serious expression of an intention to inflict bodily harm (the mens rea), and (2) would perceive such expression as being communicated to effect some change or achieve some goal through intimidation (the actus reus). A message is a "threat" if a reasonable recipient would tend to believe that the originator of the message was serious about his words and intended to effect the violence or other harm forewarned, regardless of the speaker's actual motive for issuing the communication.

Any person who willfully threatens to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person with the specific intent that the statement made verbally in writing or by means of an electronic communication device is to be taken as a threat even if there is no intent of actually carrying it out which on its face and under the circumstances in which it is made is so unequivocal unconditional immediate and specific as to convey to the person threatened a gravity of purpose and an immediate prospect of execution of the threat and thereby causes that person reasonably to be in sustained fear for his or her own safety or for his or her immediate family's safety.

It is not necessary for the victim to actually be placed in fear of imminent serious bodily injury or for the accused to have the capability or the intention to actually carry out the threat. The offense is completed if the accused, by his threat, sought as a desired reaction, to place a person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

You should listen to it again. The message was more to the people than actually to Obama. It informs the people about the threat (from Obama) to rob them of their freedom of the Internet. There was no threat to Obama.

All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Don't let your freedom be taken away. That is what that message was about.

Damn right it is a right!
It is COMMUNICATION AND FREE SPEECH.

Here is another bogus law they are trying to pass making a civil matter of copyright into government right to cease private property like computers etc.

It is outrageous! It is criminal. They are taking away our freedoms and our rights.

Yes the Internet is a right.... it belongs to THE PEOPLE.

THE GOVERNMENT IS THE PEOPLE!!!!

OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE!

PEOPLE ARE THE POWER.

Governments are elected by the people. They are servants of the people.

Content of youtube video from anonymous:

Hello, leaders of the European Union, U.S., Switzerland, Japan, Mexico, and various other nations and corporations supporting the ACTA. We are Anonymous. Over the years, we have been watching you slowly censor the internet.

From the attempted Communications Decency Act, to the unfortunately passed Digital Millennium Copyright Act in the United States, to LICRA versus Yahoo in France, to South Korea's arresting of Kim Yeon-soo for looking up information on a political opponent, and it's war on online anonymity, all of this has caught our eye. And so far, we have done nothing but complain about how our politicians were destroying our freedoms on online message boards, and yell at our televisions, and have done very little. But now, with the Introduction of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, all this is about to change.

This bill is Soviet style censorship in its purest form, and will destroy our Anonymous status on the internet. If you expose anything about your government online or criticise it, they can simply accuse you of piracy three times and you will no longer be a threat to them. Not only will your internet access be cut off, but all of your personal information disclosed. We will not be subject to random searches of laptops and mp3 players in airports.

We will not be subject to those laptops and mp3 players being confiscated or destroyed if they have even one piece of copyright infringing material on it. Our ISP's will not be forced to cut off our internet access if they suspect us of downloading copyrighted material three times or face liability. We will not have You Tube, Flicker, Lime Wire, and other sites taken down because a lawyer can't review every photo, video,or application uploaded to see if it contains copyrighted material.

We will not let our rights and anonymous status on the internet go without a fight. Therefor, Anonymous has decided we will do everything legally and peacefully within our power to stop this legislation from being passed. The governments of the world have declaired war on free speech with the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, therefore we declare war on the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. The general public does not know about this act, mostly due to the suppression of facts about the bill from the governments participating in its negotiation.

If the bill had not been leaked, I would have had almost no information to make this video with. The excuse the Obama administration is making to pass this legislation in the U.S. is to stop a quote, "cyber katrina event", caused by terrorists. If he was doing this for the good of the public, why would the administration be afraid to let the public know? The excuse of stopping cyber terrorism is a smoekscreen to let the government spy on us. People should be allowed to share files legally without fear of being accused of piracy. Information should be allowed to flow freeley in cyberspace. Average Joe should not be afraid to browse the internet.

This legislation must not be put in effect for the good of the world, and if you want us to re elect you, if you don't want us to stage protests, if you don't want the bad media attention, stop. Again, we will do everything in our power, legally and peacefully to stop this legislation from being passed. While anonymous does not support piracy, the potential for abuse of the legislation, and violation of our rights is to great.

We are anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.

even 'free speech' has limits,, as in not yelling fire in a crowded theater

our 'rights' only extend to the next persons nose and when those 'rights' may infringe upon the safety of others, we have always had 'exceptions' regarding its status as a 'right'

in the case of an attack, there is authority to shut down the internet,, I say so what

if there was a terrorist attack, would they not have the right to shut down the borders? would this be just as inexcusable to people?

its called protection, sometimes its necessary to temporarily 'sacrifice' some of our conveniences for the sake of safety

the internet is a form of MEDIA, it is a form of MASS SPEECH, it would easily fall under inciting a riot if it was misused,, much different than the local and personal free speech we enjoy,,,

I see this as no different than the TSA at the airport, it temporarily delays my travel

this would temporarily delay internet use,,,we survied hundreds of years without it so Im not too worried about a few months

now if it was ELECTRICITY,, that would be different,,lol, even though that is not a 'right' either

Those who will give up liberty for temporary safety, deserve neither. I believe Thomas Jefferson said that if I recall right.

Further, they make up all the terrorist crap anyway, to scare us. It's all based on lies and deceit, every last bit. They wouldn't be able to justify taking everything away without it.

how gullible and frightened you are.

Do you know how many "terrorists" attacks have been staged or lied about for the purpose of some political agenda?

Learn about the unsuccessful coup of the democratically elected president in Venezuela by Mossad, aided by the U.S. (who later denied involvement) His people found out about how it was all a set up and they all went into the streets and demanded to have their president back, who had been kidnapped and imprisoned. The army and security forces supported the people, and the president was brought back.
(Three months after the coup)

President Bush administration supported the coup and announced the propaganda all over the place, then denied involvement. What a load of crap.

Don't be so naive to trade your liberty for safety. Trust in the grace of God and don't be so afraid.

The "terrorists" are not who you think they are. They are a made up enemy to frighten the people into giving the government power over everything.

This is truth.
Hold on to your freedom.

Okay I have one more thing to say then I'm going to bed.

If you think this country is in danger of "an attack" from anyone or from "terrorists" I would suggest that you tell the government to bring home our military to protect this country!!

They have most of our military fighting in foreign wars that are none of our business. If there were an invasion here through any of our "borders" how long do you think it would take to get our military here?

TOO LONG!!

Also, to shut down the internet would cripple the people who depend on it for news and information about what is happening. We cannot depend on that from the media and television.

There is only one reason they would want to cut off our communications. They are afraid we will find out what THEY ARE DOING TO US.

not that its popular but my 'freedom' to use the internet is just not a priority to me

but its a mute argument anyway being as how there is NO REFERENCE to where this proposed bill is or what it ACTUALLY says

seems like more of that 'fear' propoganda that the government is so often accused of pulling, to be truthful, only this time its believable because its ANTI GOVERNMENT,,,shrugs

This. The internet has great power, particularly in the way of information, and they know this. They can't control what is put out there as easily as they can the other media sources, so they have to find a way to neutralize it. One way would be to shut it down or at the very least control it's usage (research internet 2 as far as that goes).

What you can't do a google for it?

Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)

http://www.ustr.gov/acta

You must also know that copyright has always been a civil matter, and now they are calling it "counterfeiting" and making it a crime so they can cease your computers and other digital devices, (even your phones probably.)

They will try to make it sound "like a good idea" to protect people (as usual) but it will give them sweeping powers.

so, the military and government are not necessarily our top minds after all

giving us the TECHNOLOGY with such great power and not REALIZING that power until oh,, a few decades later,,,,,when they changed their minds and decided they needed to take it back?

seems they could do that with alot less fuss, legal repurcussion and alot more PROFIT by raising the prices like they do on gas,,,to eventually force people to become less and less 'dependent' upon it,,,,

but hey, IM not in the military, so perhaps Im just smarter than their brightest minds,,,,

There are those who fight for freedom and speak out.
And there are those frady-cats who give it away because they think they need protection from some made-up enemy.

The media spreads fear and panic. They participate in terrorism themselves in that regard.

Too many good men died protecting our freedom and you just want to give it away? Cause you are afraid of some "terrorist" attack? You don't care about them shutting down the Internet cause you don't care about it that much?

You spend an awful lot of time on mingle. What ever will you do if they shut it down? LOL laugh laugh

You are wrong if you think that THEY gave us the Internet. The people mostly responsible for that was the hackers and the computer nuts. The government's efforts were just the beginning. They never intended it to spread so quickly!!

They had no idea what was going to happen. It spread like a virus. They could not stop it. If they had known what was to come they would not have started it in the first place.
