As Totage said, several African countries are notorious for dating scams, and other scams too. I've had a few come after me, and I strung them along until they finally tried to ask for money. Then I slammed the door in their face. Repeatedly.

Often it is not black women that are the problem. Most scammers are men, and they often pose as women. They may even falsify which country they are from. And so, they make it tough for any African - regardless of country or gender - to find someone willing to accept them on a dating site.

So, if the scammers were actively and continuously caught and punished, the situation for Africans looking for love online would improve.

It's really as simple as that.

I don't think that it is all men, obviously those who have said that to you have issues that are far deeper than you need to deal with. you look like an intelligent attractive women, you deserve better than these guys.

I have heard plenty of stereotypes, but not that one,,,
I usually hear white women are extremely easy and black women are loud and obnoxious

( I know both are untrue, just stating the stereotypes that seem most common)

My guess is that these oversea's messages are from:

1. Women wanting a green card
2. Men acting as women trying to get money
3. Women trying to get money

Any way one looks at it I delete them all. Most women my age (roughly 60) are not, usually, after money in my experience.

Totally true. I have this friend who thinks that all women are after money. I try to reason with him that this is not the case. Then he goes out and buys a Corvette and complains that all he meets are shallow women. I don't know how to get through to him.

I see it this way, if she is putting up with my broke azz now she is into me.

If I get rich somehow and women notice me they are noticing the money, not me.

I do try to get out and date but so far things are just and I am not settling for less than the line I drawn. I don't want to date just anyone. But when I approach a lot of women here the first thing they look at is my shoes. Women can tell when we are looking at their boobs, well, I can tell where women are looking at me and I dress in looser fit clothing so I am not projecting my bulge! Talk about uncomfortable. But still, look at how many female profiles say they are looking for financially stable men? My assumption is 10K a month plus jobs MINIMUM. That shoots my poor azz right out of the ball park!

So again here I am dateless and struggling for money. When I do have money and dates start happening again what am I supposed to think? Delude myself into thinking she really loves me?

@ActionLynx: I couldn't agree more! I'm a black woman from Brazil and have received several online messages that typically sound "419-scam"ish. I simply block those users.

The best thing to do is report and block. Although this site is pretty good about keeping spammers and scammers out, they do creep in from time to time. If you report them, that just helps the admin and mods keep this site safe and enjoyable for us.

If that really is your belief...then you are your own worst enemy in the dating world.

I know a lot of people and I don't know anyone who uses women for thier money or even pretend to.

To be honest, there are scammers from England, Belgium, Ghana, Nigeria, China, the Philippines, Russia, and even Korea that make their way into dating sites. There are even scammers here in the U.S.! They can come from anywhere. These just are the countries I have personally witnessed on dating sites.

Many of them will actually pose as Americans, just to bait an American into contacting them. But when you talk to them, they spin some story about how they have a sick mother back in Nigeria. Hence, they are in Nigeria, not the U.S. caring for their mother. Or they have a job that forces them to travel around the world, and they currently are in Malaysia for a month. I have seen scammers do this with other countries too, like Australia and South Africa, claiming dual citizenship because of mixed parentage. Almost always, one parent is supposedly from Ghana or Nigeria.

In the end, they tell you some sob story about how they cannot return home because of a lack of money. That's when they act apologetic and unsure of themselves as they ask you for money so they can return home. It's all part of the act just to make you believe them.

Once I even tracked one of these people down to a business in Beijing. They had 6 different aliases, none of them Chinese, but each from a different country. When I tracked down the IP numbers and the usernames, I found them all linked to one name out of one website. It was a 23 year old just out of college for computer studies working for some company in Beijing. I don't remember the name anymore. I created a dummy email account, then emailed this guy to let him know he had been caught. All his hotmail accounts were closed within a day after I emailed him.

So, it's not always Africans that do it. They might pose as Africans though. As a general rule, the scammers do target Americans the most, above all other countries. Hence why Americans seem to be less inclined to speak with or date people from other countries due to an online dating site.
