What things are divinely inspired?
Great art? Great music? Great literature? Science?

Lousy forms of any of those things?
Charity?
Mass Murder?

What do you think divine inspiration really is - and what are some
examples of things that are or are not divinely inspired?

To figure that out, we would first need to decide what divine is. Does divinity imply that it is of god/s? A spiritual experience regardless of potential higher beings?

To figure that out, we would first need to decide what divine is.

That's a good point. bigsmile

We were just taking in another thread about God turning Lot's wife into a pillar of salt.

I wonder if that was a "divine" act?

~~~~~
On a more practical note, it's been my experience that people tend to associate "divinity" with things that they see as being really beautiful or awesome, and if it isn't so hot, then it probably wasn't divinely inspired.
And of course, nothing considered to be "bad" or evil could possibly have been divinely inspired. Unless, of course, God supposedly had a plan that humans simply can't understand. That often suggested as well.
~~~~~

I tend to agree with Jeanniebean when she basically associates "Godliness" or being "Divine" with LOVE, pure and simple.

In that case anything that is inspired by LOVE is divinely inspired.

Sounds like a pretty sound approach to me. bigsmile

di·vine/diˈvīn/
Adjective:
Of, from, or like God or a god.

=-=-=-=

My thinking was using the above definition of divine.

So...No one has answered yet.

Divine Inspiration....Inspired of God....

with the ability to speak and move to the very depth of man's

being.

Of course we all already know these great works of divine

inspiration:

The Holy Bible....the Divinely Inspired Word of God(the

GREATEST of ALL divine inspirations...

(ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for

doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in

righteousness .2 Timothy 3:16)

Mozart's ,"Handel's Messiah"....

Michelangelos's Sistine chapel(painting of the ceiling) and the

Pieta .....

But since every man is a work of art by our Creator,and

also made in God's very own Image, there is nothing that man

also cannot do , when inspired by Almighty God.

I take it back! Abra did respond.

If I understand it correctly then you're point is that if it is
inspired by LOVE then it is divinely inspired - simple as that
and evil or bad things which are not from LOVE are not divinely
inspired.

The problem I have with this view is that evil people LOVE. They
love to do evil things. They enjoy it in a perverted way. They
twist love. So I don't think that having the emotion LOVE as the
sole criterion is really cutting it otherwise you wind up with a
self-contradiction.

You might say that evil people's perception of love is not true
love but I don't think that works. You will ultimately have to
come back to divine love as being true!

Even an atheist would have to admit divine inspiration exists because it speaks to the persons belief in what inspired them to create something. Not another persons evaluation of that persons work.

not being an atheist i couldn't say but i've still seen nothing that suggests that devine inspiration exists. but i suppose now we get into the difinition of the term 'devine inspiration' which has been stated to include god and since my doubt there is not unlike my doubt in santa i'll leave that discussion to others.

All Inspiration Comes From God.

But not All Inspiration Glorifies God.

DIVINE Inspiration Glorifies God.

----------------------------------------------------------

Hi! How are you? I just read your message.
I am in and out from my bedroom at this time, because I am cooking dinner. I let my computer on. laugh

My friend, your question is interesting.

I am a religious person, so I do believe in divine inspiration.
For me, a divine inspiration is a science of faith (knowledge of your trust in something)
For example, you believe in GOD. You are inspired of the words in the bible. You know you’re good of music and you have a beautiful voice. But, you believe that GOD gave you those talents. So, you will write a GOSPEL MUSIC dedicated to GOD. That is to thank GOD for your talents. GOD or SAINTS are your divine inspiration.

Sorry, but I do not want to response to “Lousy forms of any of those things?” Because you already know that those are bad works of bad people.

However, since this is a DATING WEBSITE, I want to expand the meaning if you don’t mind. A divine inspiration is also related to a relationship that you might be seeking. Please read my own explanation below:
• DEVINE means WOMAN that is divine (beauty & kind; someone that is perfect inside and outside), sometimes you can say it as divine as a virgin woman; for example a Virgin Mary, the mother of Lord Jesus.
• INSPIRATION (someone that will inspire you).
Putting it together, means you are looking for someone that is not just beautiful from outside, but also beautiful inside.

GOD BLESS you with your search. May you find a partner that will make you happy.

If I paint a picture and tell you I was inspired by God, then you have to admit it exists. It was MY divine inspiration. You are free to think I am a nutjob, but you must still acknowledge my inspiration. You do not have to share my inspiration to view the work I created as a result of MY inspiration.

let's break it down like this. the word 'devine' refers to god as has already been established here. so first convince me that god exists, then we can get to what i think inspired you to paint the picture. because obviously if there is no god then you telling me that you were inspired by god is either a lie or a mistake. perhaps had you said that you were inspired by your BELIEF in god i'd see your point. but that's not your claim. your claim was that you were inpired by god.

jrbogie's photo

I dont need to convince you that God exists, only that I believe, and that God was what inspired me.

oh, i understand quite well that you don't think i need to be convinced that god exists. it's me who says i must first be convinced that god exists before i can be convinced that devine inpiration exists.

You are free to think I am wrong about God, and you are free to think I am lying regarding where I get my inspiration, but you must recognise that it is at least possible that I was inspired by the God that I believe in. It has nothing to do with anyone else.

if i'm free to think you may be wrong about god then it must follow that I AM free to think you may be wrong about what inspired you to paint? in niether case have i said you were wrong. i simply told you that if I AM TO BE CONVINCED that you were inpired by god then by MY REASONING you need fist convince me that god exists. short of that convincing, MY LOGIC tells me that you were inpired by something other than god which i can agree does exist such as your belief in god which i've no reason to doubt. what you believe in has nothing to do with anyone else just as the logic i use in my reasoning process has nothing to do with anyone else. you very well might convince one of your fellow church members that you were inpired by god. you may be able to convince every person of faith on the planet that you were inpired by god but that would not mean that I AM CONVINCED that you were inpired by god.

i've not said anywhere that devine inspiration, god or santa does not exist or that you are wrong for believing it so. all i've said is that i've seen nothing that suggests TO ME that they do exist. though i must say that in my younger years my parents did have me convinced of santa but my reasoning methods have changed dramatically in the last half century or so.

Co-sign. To me, it's like Francis collins who said he seen three parts of a waterfall frozen and that convinced him of the Abrahamic God (Trinity), he didn't see God, he see what he was looking for, which anything that resemble something magnificent to him = God. Anything can inspire anybody, someone saving my life can inspire me to live everyday like my last, or beating a murder trial if i know i was innocent. I think, with religious people, especially how i use to be i found things i didn't understand awe inspiring, the universe etc, and figured it was made all for us and that inspired me in my past faith.

If "divine" is of God, then you must define God.

No one agrees what God is so I will define God as "Good" and as "love."

God is Love. God is good.

Now, with that premise, divine is of love and is of good.

Love inspires us, and good things inspire us.

These are divine inspirations.

A beautiful sunset could inspire us to paint a picture.

Beauty is good. Beauty can inspire us.

But Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

***************

I believe that God dwells and lives within each person and that inspiration comes from within.

That spark within is God. It is divine.

Conclusion:

All inspiration comes from God. Everything that comes from within and is felt by the heart is divine inspiration.

The above I totally agree with for the most part. Although I would
not say that evil things that come from within and are heartfelt
are divinely inspired.

With all due respect however I think that Love or Good alone are a simplistic and wholly insufficient definition of God.

Love is an emotion. As I mentioned before, Serial Killers love their
killing but this is hardly Godlike. So God is not equivalent to "Love".

Goodness or virtue is a much closer description of what I would
consider one of God's attributes. But "good" is merely a description
of value. And God also is usually considered to be the origin of
the universe, the summation of all wisdom, and in fact the creative
force of the universe. This is infinitely more than simply "good"
although it may be described as good.

God is neither an emotion or an adjective. God is more than that.

I do not consider love to be an emotion although human love is tainted with a lot of negative emotions.

Emotions are hate, fear, excitement, anticipation, jealousy, sorrow, disgust, anger etc.

Love in its pure form, is pure. It is a bond that binds all things. It is not an emotion.
