Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find any mention of Troy Davis on here. Seems odd.

Jimmy,

you have to realize people just don't care about the world around them anymore.... all they care about is how much money you have and what you can do for them.... everyone was watching dancin with the idiots last night while they executed Troy Davis (what a travesty...)

intelligent people are the minority now bud....

Oh that Troy Davis, I was thinking he was someone like a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan who was killed or did something heroic that saved a bunch of other soldiers lives and is the only reason I asked.

I dont find it odd. You will find an abundance of anti religion, or anti obama type threads. Other topics just are a risk to even mention. Troy Davis is one of those topics. Many are anti death penalty such as myself but I think the more 'outspoken' are the ones who have the eye for an eye mentality and have 100 percent faith in the idea that people in jail must be there because they are criminals and people on death row 'deserve' to die.

Its a shame we still have the death penalty, particularly in cases where the evidence is limited to eyewitness accounts.

Shame on me for thinking it, but I have been following this past week or so what happened in that case, yet I felt it would be wasting my breath to even mention it here.

Travesty huh, why don't stand face to face with the family of the man he murdered and tell them the execution of Troy Davis is a travesty. In fact I challenge all Troy Davis supporters to stand face to face with his victims family and tell them how he was unjustly convicted blah blah blah.

whats in question is IF he murdered him in the first place, so the question becomes more of a smoke screen than anything else,,,

they had enough evidence to convict him, and he has already used all the appeals he had, about 4 or 5 of them... the supreme court said do it twice already... what more do people want? all these judges and lawyers are wrong? they don't know what they are doing?

their 'evidence' was limited to eyewitness testimony 80 percent of which was since recanted

do we really put peoples lives on the line and err to kill them because of what someone CLAIMED To see them do?

Id prefer to see some PHYSICAL evidence tying them to what they are accused of. OTherwise, whats to stop ten of my friends from getting together, and claiming we saw someone in the vicinity of a murder running from the scene with a weapon

whats to stop police from 'gathering' and 'influencing' false testimony based upon what they think went down, because they cant prove it otherwise?

it invites misuse of the system that results in the ending of a life,, and its sad that we allow it,,

AND he was given a chance by the SCOTUS to prove his innocence(The only opportunity provided to someone like this in over 50 years).

And evidence that the gun and bullets that were used in a previous crime that Davis admitted to and was found guilty of and much more evidence.

he was judged guilty, and got sentenced... then someone jury, 20 years later, says i changed my mind? he has had all his appeals, it was his time...if the supreme courts says he's guilty, then what is the problem?

the problem is he may NOT have been guilty because (not just 'someone' but MOST of the 'witnesses' later recanted and said they were coerced by police to make the identification

and therefore should NOT have been executed

Apparently they had enough evidence to convict him and the SCOTUS found nothing to overturn the decision.

it is innocent until proven guilty
Id prefer to see some PHYSICAL evidence tying them to what they are accused of.
the accusers have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. not more likely than not
OTherwise, whats to stop ten of my friends from getting together, and claiming we saw someone in the vicinity of a murder running from the scene with a weapon

you and your friends can give false witness, but that would be on you, and you would face criminal charges if you are caught. there is internal affairs to catch crooked cops
it invites misuse of the system that results in the ending of a life,, and its sad that we allow it,,
i don't believe the system is set up to invite misuse, encourage misuse, or condone misuse

we have a system. does it work, yes. is it perfect, no.
they way it is set up, i'm sure innocent people get caught up sometimes. i'm also sure guilty people get away sometimes

Everyone knows that eyewitness testimony is the most unreliable evidence there is. They had hard evidence on the guy. Peoples memory can be influenced and even lost over the years and stories change, but the evidence doesnt.
