Earth must prepare for close encounter with Aliens, say scientists

A group of scientists overseas say world governments should start preparing an action plan in case Earth is contacted by aliens. They claim a branch of the UN should be given responsibility for what they call a "supra-Earth affairs" and come up with a detailed response for if or when the extraterrestrials arrive

You don't think the subject or the question of extraterrestrial life would be considered science? What about philosophy or Metaphysics?

Metaphysics is the study of the nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and body, substance and accident, events and causation. Traditional branches are cosmology and ontology.

I think the possibility of non-human sentient life forms or aliens can be included in the question of the nature of reality

Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world, although the term is not easily defined. Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms:

"What is there?"
"What is it like?"

Like it or not, this is Metaphysics. Do you realize how many people believe they have seen aliens and or alien space craft? If you personally don't believe in such things.... I don't think you can claim that the subject and questions do not still exist.

I think the subject of aliens or extraterrestrials are both philosophy and science.

"If" an alien craft crashed in Mexico, who do you think they would have called? Scientists of course.

A lot of people believe this did happen.

On the other hand if thousands of people are simply delusional or hypnotized.....

That's also Science.

I'm glad you aren't moderating.

Nope. Its not science. Name the branch of science that deals with this?

What branch of philosophy? Metaphysics has nothing to do with a critter from somewhere else in the galaxy.

I'm glad no one is moderating.

Fixed it for you ^

it should be under religion because there really demons

the science part is the government ufos

they are preping the first responders on what to do

it sounds more like a plan

That is your opinion, not mine.

Metaphysics asks the questions:

"What is there?"
"What is it like?"

If these "critters" were only staying somewhere else in the galaxy people would not be seeing them here.

Also, string theory is science and suggests that other parallel realities exist. If this theory is true, what would you call the beings or people who occupy these parallel realities?

Aliens probably.

The subject is both science and philosophy.

Religions call them "demons." I don't.

The government knows these are real, but have determined that they are not a threat.

I suspect they know that they are mostly inter-dimensional. Like area 51, they officially deny this.

Consider how we treat cetaceans, creatures which have intelligence within an order of magnitude of our own. We kill and eat them, we pollute their environment, and now we're building wind farms there too. Extraterrestrial aliens are likely to be at least as superior to us as we are to cetaceans - if they treat us the same way our species is going to be in deep ****.

I think they are more technically advanced but they don't have our emotions and our imagination. And some of them probably eat us. tongue2

I heard they farm us for our blood and our adrenalin (from fear) is like a drug for them that makes them high.

Chocolate is toxic to them. That's why I eat lots of it.tongue2

Oops, someone here, mentioning no names, violated a language constraint.

Has anyone else seen the Torchwood episodes about the 456, extraterrestrial aliens addicted to earth children?

Thats like saying posting stuff about hurricanes here is ok because meteorology is a science. Or that posting dating stuff here is ok because sociology is a science.

I guess the moderators don't consider Carl Sagan to have been a scientist, and the SETI project isn't science.
