Click on your profile...go to settings and there is an option to click there to turn your instant messenger on and off...good luck. And welcome to mingle

I had the same question when I was new on mingle-the person you want to chat with also has to be online, then you go to their profile and you can click on the chat button that appears when they are online too. Good luck!
