So I was talking to a friend of mine tonight and while I was talking to her, her 5 year old son called her old and fat. I was actually speechless and she at first just blew it off.

Personally I think that needs to be addressed. No kid should EVER talk to or disrespect their parent like that. Also it got me thinking, a 5 year old couldn't come up with that on his own he had to have heard it said and got me thinking that her ex is saying things like this to their kids........

It's got me kinda worried.

it may just be children hear it from their parent, depends upon the context,,
I wasnt there so I dont know

I have a relative who is obese and calls himself fat, he is working on slimming down, but his son also plainly says to him he is fat

he doesnt mean it offensively , but matter of factly in the same context his father uses it,,,

children that age learn from senses(hear, see surroundings etc)and where the child hears it is in question(dad, sibling, other children,TV) but it def. needs to be addressed becuz if hes talking to his/her parent like that now can you imagine when hes a teen...Parental Abuse is a major concern in our society with state government agencies(cps/cws)taking parenting rights away from parents and puts a thin line between discipline and abuse...It scares the parent with discipline and empowers the child...Im a parent advocate and stopping the verbal abuse now is very important...Physical abuse is the next step and stopping any abuse Is Up To The Parents...

Definitely agree that she needs to have a chat with her 5 year old but respect doesn’t equate to teaching a 5 year old to be economical with the truth...as they see it.

No, her mom doesn't call her self that. I am thinking he heard it from her Ex, his father.

I totally agree!

She's actually an awesome mother, but this one I think needs a little tough love.
