..... crossing off the list all the women who like bars... dont want to go where every man in town has gone before. hmmmm

Ah, there we have it. I thought this thread was awfully tame for you, based on the past threads you've created.

Thanks for letting all the women here know that you continue to make silly generalizations!

I play the odds... and have had 2 drunks for girlfriends, dont want to go there again... Drunks are loud, smelly, self centered and basically no fun to be around. I never was much of a barfly, which is not to say that i never drank, but finally i had to ask myself a simple question..." am i really having fun here or am i just doing what I think is supposed to be fun?" Generalizations are what they are because they are usually true... plus, spending 100- 200.000 a night at the bars just dont make any sense to me. Money is too hard to come by for that. then theres the whole driving home drunk thing... of course you dont have to drink at the bar, but then whats the point? ever try to deal with drunks when you are the only sober one? have i had fun in a bar? yes. would i ever date someone I met there? Very likely not.
OF COURSE, I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN, so everyone knows everyone... which makes a difference i would guess. the women at the bar have in fact been with everyone else here already, generally speaking.

Generalizations often don't fit everyone. For example, I don't go to bars to pick up men. I go with friends to have a few drinks and listen to live music. Can't say I've ever spent close to $100 in one night at a bar. Rather than this being about people who to go to bars, it's more about you and your preference not to go to bars. It's completely fine to have that preference, but it doesn't make all people who enjoy bars like those you've described.

And what may be true for your small town isn't going to be true for other places.

Nope; I would never meet at a club or bar; its a coffee shop or nothing. Can't hear a damn thing in clubs/bars and if I meet someone; I would like to have a conversation.

what doesent apply everywhere is irrelavent to me, only concerned with my corner of the world. Yes there are probably two people that go to bars that are not like that.

So true! In general I find this story telling thing among drinkers. It's like they go into auto mode.

I also notice when I am with them in a meeting or hang out that their IQ starts to drop as the drinks start to flow. I don't even think they are aware of it, but being the straight one, it is pretty noticeable.

Drinking is drinking and I have no problem with that (I have many party friends), but I think people should leave their collective brains at the door and not try to do life important things (like meeting a partner) when under the influence of mind altering drinkage and drugage. I do make one exception to this. Some couples are party partners and that is their thing, hobby, interest. This is what they like to do and they are honest about doing it as a priority in life. (note: even many partiers don't like the bar scene)For the bar people, they are in their own class and I'm cool with it, but I don't try to mix sober with not.

Ever date someone and when it starts to get serious they throw in your face "well you met me in a bar"? Or, "you met me when I dressed like that" or some other type of statement that shows a lack of wanting to grow together? Well the bar scene is where you go to get loose and if you go there with duel intentions hoping that things are different for that person outside the bar you might be in for a little battle when it is time to settle down and get domestic.

For a lot of folks meeting someone is the time when you decide to put away certain things and become more domestic. The bar represents the rebellious side of things where lips, dress code and legs are loose. It's the adult playground for drinkers and social flys. Can it be fun? Sure for some. But is it the place to set your domestic relationship standards or gather that example from? Well you have to answer that, but for me it shows a lack of resourcefulness and stability.

I like to go to bars. Louisville has a great bar scene. I have met many interesting people in bars. If a chick wouldn't want to go and watch live music or play some pool I wouldn't want to date her. Oregon bars are the place to go. People are so generous.........smokin

Well what Bill may be talking about is a small town, but I live in Vegas (adult playground of the world) one block from the Palms resort, and I have over my life become a bit of a party/bar/pub pattern observer. I've heard all the justifications top to bottom and back and seen every type of bar know to man all over the world. Since this is a dating site and we are in the dating & relationship category, I can only assume we are talking about just that. In this thread dating & bars. What you and your girls do when you go listen to music may be the exception to the rule but I guarantee you it is that "the exception". People go to bars to drink, and or check out the bar scene, and drinking makes one a little less than accurate when it comes to making judgements.

I also think though that you understand your scene pretty well and are very straight up about it with no apologies. I have never seen you beat around the bush when it comes to partying. That I can deal with and have friends that are into it.

What I can't deal with is people who live a duality.

Ah, I got it. There are few people where you live who are not like that. You were generalizing about the area that you live in.

its all in what i am looking for... or not looking for... which is another drunk for a gf... I think its a safe bet that there are a lot of them at the bar.... any bar. There are so many other things to do in life besides get drunk...... dont really have time for it anymore and there is no purpose in it for me, and a lot of liability from my perspective. believe it or not, most people DONT drink... ever. not everyone is doing it. lol. i have raised the bar( no pun intended) above all that. Can you have fun without drinking? Most people manage just fine without it.
