White House to halt deportation of young illegal immigrants.

The White House will halt the deportation of as many as 800,000 young illegal immigrants and in some cases give them work permits, in a sweeping new initiative announced by the Department of Homeland Security.

People under 30 who entered the country illegaly or overstayed their visas when they were under the age of 16 will be immune from deportation if they have not committed a significant misdemeanor or felony and have graduated from a U.S. high school or joined the military. They can apply for a renewable two-year work permit that won't provide a path to citizenship but will allow them to work legally in the country.

"Our nation's immigration laws must be enforced in a firm and sensible manner," Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. "But they are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case. Nor are they designed to remove productive young people to countries where they may not have lived or even speak the language. Discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here."

President Obama will address the change in a speech at 1:15 pm.

Young people who were brought into the country illegally or overstayed their visas as children are commonly referred to as "Dreamers," referencing the title of a decade-old bill that would have given them legal status if they joined the military or attended college. The Dream Act passed the House nearly two years ago, but was blocked by Republicans in the Senate. Opponents of the bill have argued that it would encourage more people to enter the country illegally, while supporters say it helps people who were brought up as Americans and whose lack of status is not their own fault become full members of society.

President Obama has faced criticism from the crucial Hispanic electorate for ramping up deportations under his tenure and for failing to deliver on his campaign promise to pass comprehensive immigration reform within his first year in office. Several times in the past year, Obama has told Hispanic audiences who asked him why he did not issue an executive order halting deportations of some classes of immigrants that such a move would be legally impossible. It's unclear what made him change his mind.

"We've been hearing all sorts of things from the White House, that it's not legally possible, that it's not politically possible," said Erika Andiola, a 25-year-old Arizona-based Dreamer and advocate who has met with administration officials on the subject. "I can't even believe it. We've been working for this for so long."

The move may generate enthusiasm among many Latinos: 85 percent of registered Latino voters said in a Latino Decisions poll that they support the Dream Act. The president enjoys a strong lead among Hispanic voters over Mitt Romney, but a lack of enthusiasm among these voters could mean they stay home on Election Day in swing states like Nevada, Colorado and Florida. During the primary, Mitt Romney said he would veto the Dream Act, but in recent weeks he has seen open to a proposal by Sen. Marco Rubio to grant Dreamers a worker permit but not a path to citizenship.

This is what one calls "Dictatorship". He didn't even send this thru congress. Abuse of power.

Besides that, nothing changed regarding illegals. Nothing.

Wrong.... they retained a major portion of their voter base by their inaction laugh

If he thinks the illegals are gonna miss time from their jobs to vote then he's sadly mistaken. This is a cry of desperation on Obamas part. He knows there's a high probability he won't be re-elected.

With luck, after November, Napolitano Law can be reversed. I'd like to see her standing in the welfare line with Barry.

That's the sad part!

Even if we do unseat this dictator, we will have to support his new lavish lifestyle for years to come!

5,000+ comments and very few are happy about the dictator freeing the Illegals without a single congressional vote.

News is traveling fast.
I just got a text message from 210 833-4609.
I called them and told them exactly what I thought of this highly unconstitutional move.

It says;

If ya' don't know Spanish like Barry suggested, it says;

Good news for young folks who entered the US illegally.

Today barry decreed that he won't deport people younger than 30 and was here younger than 16 in school.

They can also get permission to work legally here.

This is super news.

If you know someone who can benefit from this new "presidential" mandate please give them our information.

Call the number listed and let them know what you think of the Hussein movemiento.

Here's the thing. Because the ultimate goal is a new world order and all of North and South America will be a single entity eventually there is no need for boarder wars at this point.

The Bush administration didn't care about illegals, and neither did the president before that. This is because no matter what party they claim they are running for, they are all in line with the eventual one world government.

These are young people who have lived here all their lives, brought over by their parents, and most of them don't even speak Spanish themselves. They know nothing of Old Mexico.

I think it is a humanitarian thing to do and I see nothing wrong with it.

They could jump the fence tomorrow.
They will still qualify.
Than again, there are those who prefer the Illegal having rights than preserving the rights of our own citizens.

It wouldn't surprise me one iota if the actual number is in the millions or tens of millions. That's how Gov. and MSM work. Fudge da' numbers to make it out to be less than it actually is.

I sure hope this insanity is blocked by some of our reps soon.

More Mexicans are leaving the country than breaking into it. We've become a 3rd world country.

To top it off, they need to stop Unemployment extensions.

That would have real Americans in there fighting the illegals for the jobs available.

I'd love to watch that circus act.

Wrong!! These kids have only had to be in the U.S. for five years. They could have come as teenagers. They definitely speak Spanish because it is the language their parents know and speak. They are so catered to here in CA.(and other states) that they can don't need to speak english.

Once again, it's a divide and conquer tactic. At one time I was anti-illegals, living in Southern California but WAR, the failure of the government to balance its checkbook, and the phony war on drugs are actually a much larger problem than a few meager jobs an illegal takes up.

We don't have an honest nor sovereign monetary system. People on Welfare and unemployment are truly the only balancing factor against the big banks, who get money for free and charge us interest to use it. The top dog enemy of America is the Federal Reserve. My own business has had more than $300,000 stolen from it in value over the past 10 years. I say stolen because the value of the dollar decreases every day, diluted by more printed currency. What fools us is that much of these dollars accumulate and stay out of circulation. The day foreign confidence in the dollar dies, we will see it go the way of the German mark. Jobs today are nothing like the jobs 40 years ago. Deflate the value of the dollar and make sure minimum wage doesn't go up quite as much. Now do that for 40 years. Now it usually takes both parents working to just barely make ends meet. I'm the only person in my neighborhood NOT on some form of government assistance.

People are so selfish.

We all live on the same planet.

I think some people are selfish, no doubt.

I think others just believe that laws should be applied equally to everyone.

I understand why there are requirements to move to and live in another country. Immigration process and laws have good reasons and make good sense to me.

I Belive its best to enforce those laws, because I believe not enforcing them encourages more people to break them.

he already had what most consider a 'lavish' lifestyle before 2008

he will make more from his books than he does earn as a president

so its not really a 'new' lifestyle

but yes, like presidents before him, he will receive some sort of pension and benefits for his 'service'
