Topic: Free Will?

If an attractive woman is throwing herself at you self preservation is the ONLY thing that might stop you. In this case, sex with her could mean prison,being labeled a sex criminal and having to register every time you move. If you're married, it could ruin that and you'd end up losing half (if not more) of everything. All this would effect your ability to maintain the life you've built, not to mention you could be killed by an irate father or crazy man i prison. Fear is a prime motivator. Comes up constantly. I believe we are made up of body, soul and spirit. Am I reading you right that you think we are only body(our physical bodies) and soul (our mind, emotions). The human spirit makes us who we are and unique.

I heard Helen Keller flipped the bird after the furniture was re-arranged. That was before she could talk. Speaking of birds; my parrot chooses to mess with me at times by striking out at my shoulder as I pass, but not exactly as why a dog licks himself. ....thanks for the laugh Gep xoxo I'll get back to this thread after I knock a few of those 'rithms' around

diabetics a dime a dozen whats really going on here? you live in a cookie cutter world as you look up and down your block you have grass because you want it as does your neighbor as does his neighbor block after block all the same spending money on products you dont really need but you think you do and if someone on your block gets out of line we have codes and fines for them

Did it say only those with sense of self have free will? I love the S outa turtles, wild ones seem robotic. But they seem to learn in hand. Out of the box per se, I've shaken hands with preying mantis...felt my finger and though it waz fooked. Near tipped it's hat as I brought it from harms way. Dem insects really seem to look one in the eye/or feel. Some entities just know when to shut the .... up. I gave signals the lonely person who lives outside. I came to the lakes' edge to ponder, to hold my own thoughts uninterrupted. ~I chose to remove the bug from harm because it showed stuff. dat guy that has answer to everything, lonely or not had answer to anything. I got beatup by my sig other for speaking my peace of..so I grabbed coupla beers 'n sat with Mr yammer off the topo-head. lol, after ripping he a new one dis dat.. "Ahh, see how we broke thru speaking of chemical ground contamination?" Free will was created coined word as nitch for job(s). It's ok mind you, you're agenda is anther's mans trash. ...I wonder of that chimp that sat upon, biting face, then fingers off one by one..was it not dare or tease to dare. Free will ifn I may would be giving back land to natives. Cursed holds more merit than.

So, you don't believe you have the free will to turn a woman down? You don't believe you're choosing which women to be with? First of all, I'm not saying anything. I posted a quote and a link to two top people in their fields. I'm also playing devel's advocate to have an interesting conversation and to see if I understand what Hawking and Dennet mean. What's being suggested is that what we believe to be thought really isn't anything but simple algarithms working in concert. What I or anyone else "believes" doesn't matter. This is the sciance & phylosophy forum. If you disagree with what's been suggested, present your evidence for review. I also think it's interesting that so many people find the notion that we don't have free will so repugnant. I, myself, do not. In fact, I think it explains a lot about human behavior.

Users should use their own voices and their own reasoning power to describe their points of view. --------------- let me illustrate. --------------- A new patient comes into the funny farm (old fashioned expression for psychiatric ward.) The first night he goes to bed there, and after the lights are out, someone says, "ninety-two." Everyone laughs. Someone else says, "ninety-eight." Laughter again. The new patient asks the guy in the bed next to his, "what's going on?" The old timer says, "we've all been here together for so long, and told each other the same jokes, that we numbered them, and if someone wants to say a joke they just say the number." So there is a lull, and the new guy clears his throat, and says, meekly, "Ninety-five." Nobody laughs, a few sighs of resignation. He asks his bed-neighbour what happened. So I ask you too, please, to write out your opinions, please do not make it harder for us than necessary. You see, it's your argument you want to put forth; it is your job to make your argument palatable enough for others to stay and listen to. If you say "seven hundred and seventy nine", nobody will have any idea what NEW argument you are ushering in.
