Topic: Crazy Scientific Theories

Just curious to hear what some of the craziest scientific theories that people in here have heard of before are.

One of mine would be that out of billions and billions of possible dimensions, universes and planets is that ours is the only one with the ability to sustain life. Possibly just the luck of the draw.

Impossible. There are as many stars as there are grains of sand in all the beaches of the world so we can't be the only planet with life.

Exactly why I found this theory crazy.

Apparently, you don't don't know the difference between a scientific theory and pure speculation. A theory isn't a theory unless it is testable.

Possible dimensions and universes? Is there a way to test that belief of yours?

I was saying that was what I heard someone say on T.V. that some scientists believe. It isn't anything I actually believe, I thought it was ridiculous when they were trying to explain it.

Well, apparently soon Earth's magnetic poles will shift.

Earth's magnetic poles shift constantly.

That is pretty silly. Statistically, there may be an infinite number of planets with life if there are an infinite number of planets.

Well I'm terrible at science, so I am not fully capable of discussing it properly.

I wonder what would happen if I brought up Global Warming...or is that topic dead finally?

The only bad part about global warming is that certain species of animals will be negatively affected. Winter in Toronto last year was AMAZING. There was hardly any snow and the temperature was bearable!!! That really made me believe in global warming. But apparently the name is a lie because some regions will become cooler and weather patterns will change all about.

Global warming is also not the only thing affecting our weather and things.

It's not dead, just not the top of the discussion at the moment. I know the science and have worked with the people providing the data. I have traveled the world (for other reasons) and brought back observations used in data collection such as bleaching of coral reefs, retreatment of glaciers, elimination of snowcaps, etc.

Global warming is real. The political spin put on it from turkeys like Al Gore have done as much to confuse the real issues as has the false data infused into our media from the oil companies. We are nearing several "tipping points" which will permanently alter parts of the world's climate. Crops are now failing, droughts are at all time highs, and population migration is beginning. Many who think they understand the problem can't separate local data from global data. Most of the world's population is brainwashed in one way or another.

Much of the world's fresh water supply is disappearing.

It isn't pretty.

I know around here weather has been too warm, we've had summers 20-30 degrees warmer than usual and winters where we hardly get any snow and the average temperature is about 15 higher than normal.

i kind of believe that too, if going back in time was possible... i think that if someone would go back in time and change anything, it would create a new dimension, not change our reality. so, the way i see it, 1 person could make millions of new dimensions by changing things in the past... pure science fiction, but i like it...

I one time had a random thought, not theory. That what if everyone's mind is its own universe and when you think things, you will it into an alternate dimension where there are people just like us in it. So in a sense everyone is a god of their own dimension, and it would be endless. And the dimensions don't end when someone dies, they just stop having direct changes from the "God".

i guess that is ok if you want to be a god... your right, everyone has their own reality, which resembles everyone elses, but never the same...

Also had the idea that if you were little and had an "imaginary" friend, it wasn't imaginary. But instead it was actually something from your dimension that you created and only you could see it because it was from YOU.

i believe the definition of that is "insane"... even since everyone has a different reality, there are basic fundamentals that we have to observe. If we see someone talking to something that we can't see, our reality tells us that the person is probably sick, regardless of any actual basis for the conversation...

Many little kids have imaginary friends, it doesn't make them insane. That's just when people are most imaginative and creative usually.
