Across the country but I was with my cousin, I'd imagine I could do it in less time alone but I guess it was the middle of winter in the Midwest, Christ, that place needs to fall into a hole or something.

Didn't die though, probably should have, almost did coming into Colorado...Ha, good times.

One day I up and decided to quit college, after 3 years.
So I loaded my little English Sunbeam, and headed home
to the San Francisco Bay area from BYU, in Provo, Utah.

First and biggest snow storm of the year hit as I was
on my way.
They were pulling us out of the snow banks as fast as
we spiraled out of control just before the freeway.

Then, crossing the lonely desert of Nevada I noticed
I had a tail.
Big 2-trailer rig, right on me.
I sped up, he sped up.
I slowed, he slowed.
I was getting real nervous.

When finally a town appeared I headed right for the
busiest gas station I could find.
I waited for the attendant before exiting the car.
The big-rig driver walked up to me.

'Thanks for the company on the drive' he said.
'Makes it a little easier with the desolation
and all' and he walked away.

Okay.
It took a couple of days.
Wasn't hard, you headed due west, when you reached the
ocean, you went a wee south.

Actually done several long trips.

1st big one from CO Springs to Columbus, GA in car

2nd one from Lakeland FL to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in car

3rd one from Ft. Leonard Wood, MO to Phoenix AZ, but this time I was driving a 20' Uhaul truck and was pulling my car, that was the trip from HELL towards the end.

Took Hwy 87 from Winslow down to Phoenix, thinking have been on the road for days to take a "shortcut" and save time, taking hwy 87 instead of driving to Flagstaff and down on I-17..........gah those two lane serpentine roads...I constantly had to keep the foot on the break, trying not to look out the window to the right and see the steep "cliffs".

Well anyway, by the time we got to Strawberry the breaks were smoking and I was near having a coronary. How we made it???? By being looked out for that is all I can say.

So my moral of this story is....if the only way out of the Valley of the sun would be Hwy 87 in AZ......well ALL my stuff can stay behind...I'll never drive a truck on that road again!

In a car? Couple a thousand miles.

On a bike? Couple a thousand miles.

I love road trips.
