Is still an addict but how about some of those names we have for them:
USA; Tweaker, Junkie, Sketcher, Street Lurker, Heads U.K.; Sprangers, pikeies (although this term I thought was usually used for Gypsies). But I know there are other names for them in other countries... So by what other name is a Drug Addict known? Feel free to spell it like you would in your country! |

I've been clean and sober since 1995, but I can tell ya that if you called me any of those names while I was out on the street homeless and dopesick I probably woulda cut your throats. Perhaps making fun of the problem isn't the answer? |

If you're talking to me, I wasn't making fun of the problem, just the topic......Congratulation on your sobriety  ...Once upon a time, my heart was beat to a pulp by an addict...Not because I loved him, but because I thought I could save him...I think they call it co dependency...Anyhoo, happy holidays....

I don't have much call to discuss the drug culture at this time so I don't usually |

Of course this discounts being on the other side of the fence watching friends slowly die and ignoring everyone around them to get help. or having DA friends who steal from you. or having DAs constantly asking me for .50 cents. or having DAs around you who would stab you in the back with a lead pipe if they thought for a second they could get their next fix... So if I would have said that to your face while you were, "In the wild," I would be fully ready to back my words... I don't like people around me I can't trust and likewise I act accordingly! Hell, Meth claimed a step brother and my mom was the one who prevented me from dealing with his issue the right way... starting off with a serious beat down... JUST TO GET HIS ATTENTION. But now he is dead from an OD so why should I care? Heck, I have two other friends in my past I lost to Meth and four others who I have become disassociated to becasue of their preference. I may be 4:20 but I am not robbing people for it. I am not killing people for it. I don't lie about it or lie to get it. I work while on it becasue I hate labor so much now that without it I DON'T FEEL MOTIVATED AT ALL TO WORK! At least doing work I don't like. But like I am fond of saying, the bills don't pay themselves. I am the polar reverse of an alcoholic. I don't do what I do to get away from life. I do what I do to make life tolerable! DAs just want to run away from everything! So hey, you got clean. That is something I have not seen a lot of DAs do. I got one friend who is AA, and had to quit everything and he was doing Meth. Hell I even caught him doing it but I got my ways of making people feel very guilty about falling off the wagon. I can tell he has been off of it for a while because he is so wound up right now and man does he go through sunflower seeds. Its a struggle but hey, you made it, you faced yourself. YOU DID WHAT YOU HAD TO. I know HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WHO CAN'T AND WILL NOT FOR ANY REASON. At least you made the evolution to rise from the muck at the bottom. I can respect that. But respect a addict? PLEASE! THAT EMPOWERS THE BEHAVIOR IN THE FIRST PLACE. I respect the struggle. NOT THE ADDICT! A very fitting term for most DAs is Lost Souls! They have no direction and don't want one! |

If you need a substance to perform normal work duties that is essentially identifying as a functioning addict.

Instead of putting all that energy into putting them down, why not use it to support those who need help with their addiction? Sadly a lot of addicts could care less how they are affecting the people around them let alone who they endanger with their behavior. The only addict I don't insult is the one who admits what they are and they try, TRY to do something about it. You are aware most addicts try to pull you into their world? On top of that I notice when friends of mine suddenly become real religious something is up. Don't ask "if the need help." The reality is DO THEY WANT HELP? Have you ever had to deal with an interdiction? |
